Just common sense and good man-management IMO.Mrs P. I'd never do this if I was management in an office at a paper factory. It's just unkind, if I had an employee who was failing I'd not belittle him in front of everyone else. It would also make my staff less inclined to trust me.
I don't think I'm being disingenuous but I will admit I'm not bothered if he's being a hypocrite or not.Oh deary me...its exactly the same. You're being disingenuous. Romero has been at Spurs a few years he critiqued what he has seen in a board underperform in public. Ange has publicly criticised a player a player he feels is underperforming.
BUT that's not the substantive point which was the hypocrisy in saying don't do this publicly and then doing it himself twenty eight hours later.
Hey if these players get us winning games then I'll listen to them slag off whoever they want. I'll hold a TED talk night and they can all have a go.
I have no issue with any of it being said to Timo in private. And I have no problem with what Ange said about Timo. He was shit on Thurs. His performance was his worst performance in a Spurs shirt. I personally assume there's been many private chats with Timo that have clearly not worked so let's see if this approach gets a reaction.
I don't consider an office environment the same as the Premier League.I have no issue with any of it being said to Timo in private.
The whole issue is calling him out in public. It’s basic man management that you keep this sort of thing behind closed doors.
‘Do as you would be done by’ is a good motto for life. I doubt you’d appreciate a manager criticising you in front of your colleagues?
Managers in any form of business that call out employees in front of other colleagues do nothing but garner resentment. It’s a really negative form of man management IMHO.
The basic principles of man management are the same irrespective of industry or environment.I don't consider an office environment the same as the Premier League.
Can't say I've ever had my work discussed at press conferences.
Sorry I don't see it that way.The basic principles of man management are the same irrespective of industry or environment.
Flip it round the other way. When Lange was interviewed a while back, would you think it acceptable for him to bollock Ange in that public forum saying ‘I’ve had enough of him not prioritising set pieces and I’ve told him to stop looking at the ground when being interviewed!’?
Do you think that’s maybe a discussion for behind closed doors?
Do you think saying that in public is going to encourage a respectful relationship between Ange and Johan or a resentful one?
It’s exactly the same principle!
A team mate yelling at you in the heat of the match is very different to being singled out by the manager at a press conference.Sorry I don't see it that way.
Footballers know that they will be subject to intense scrutiny. Everything they do could be poured over in forensic detail. At times, they'll expect to hear some hard truths.
I didn't expect Bergvall to lose sleep over Vic shouting at him, I don't expect Timo to lose sleep cos his manager said he wasn't performing up to standard.
If they were crying about it, I'd want them gone.
These players need to toughen up and perform for this club.
But again, I'm assuming many private discussions took place and have had no impact. Maybe this is the last roll of the dice to get Timo contributing.
How did it deflect pressure from himself?!A team mate yelling at you in the heat of the match is very different to being singled out by the manager at a press conference.
Ange could have got the same message across in private. In the press conference he could have said I wasn’t happy with the effort of a large number of players and we will have that discussion behind closed doors, but rather than doing that he singled out one player when there were numerous that didn’t do enough eg, Johnson who constantly failed to help Porro out
In my opinion it was a tactic to deflect pressure away from himself.
I have no issue with any of it being said to Timo in private.

What have the press been concentrating on since? Timo’s contribution or lack of it!
How did it deflect pressure from himself?!
If we lose tomorrow, who is more likely to get sacked? Ange or Timo?
And that's the thing - yes it would not be appreciated if my manager calls out my bad performance in front of my colleagues. But at the end of the day if I'm not performing then I'll be given my marching orders, not my manager. It's a completely different dynamic.
I dont see the problem with the Timo Werner comments. He's a professional footballer. Several of the players have been playing very badly for many weeks, and many of the points dropped are because they dont seem to care enough. If Timo Werner, who has been given so many chances, keeps on playing like he does maybe he needs to be criticised like this.
Exactly butt. No problem at all. Just debate innit. What have the press been concentrating on since? Timo’s contribution or lack of it!
You clearly don’t have an issue with how it was handled, whereas I do.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree. No problem with that.
But ur assuming the private chats haven't happened. But if you’re not performing wouldn’t you prefer your manager to have a chat with you in his office just the two of you
Then is that more likely to get a positive response from yourself in future rather than getting called out in front of everyone?
Those shelves won’t stack themselves would then be your motto!
“Each day in every way!
I will get better”!!
Exactly butt. No problem at all. Just debate innit.
The reason I don't have a problem with it is that it's Ange's job on the line and the players have excuses made for them for far too long.
Our problems aren't all Levy and managers. The players have let us down too.
Depends if he’s simply incapable, or not trying and acting like a prick.Mrs P. I'd never do this if I was management in an office at a paper factory. It's just unkind, if I had an employee who was failing I'd not belittle him in front of everyone else. It would also make my staff less inclined to trust me.
