I can guarantee if we get potter or Iraola, we’ll have a bounce and then within 18 months everyone will be slagging their tactics off and wanting them gone, because there is no way any manager in our range can make us successful with the ENIC business model

I try to come on here and find some hope and then i read Southgate's name and I just realised we haven't even gotten close to rock bottom yet. This never ending loop of misery still has another few gears to go

Tactics would be to sit very deep then Romero to boot it long to Solanke and for Kulu and Son to make a mad dash. Repeat a thousand times. Sterling would be bought from Chelsea and Rashford from United to make us better at it.

That not really how England played under him,........also Sterling and Rashford were dumped for the recent euros

Southgate can be mocked for a few things but what you say makes no sense at all

Larry,

You’re overthinking it. We all know ENIC are the fundamental problem. Their intransigence prohibits true success.

But any manager can still get judged on basic stuff. The bread and butter of building a team. Ange is limited, one dimensional, inexperienced at this level and obstinate. An elite coach has to demonstrate more sophistication.

Replacing him doesn’t alter the overall position with ENIC.

It's also hilariously dumb because if you're going to want to stick by a coach to "change" the way ENIC operate (which will never happen anyway but let's do fiction) then you throw absolute support behind a Conte, not an Ange. Ange hasn't said a word against this board. He has repeatedly praised us in the transfer market. He is marching to ENIC's tune because he doesn't have the pedigree to risk standing against them, this guy is the absolute worst candidate if you want to go board vs coach.

But the sheer single mindedness of it is very Ange so I'll give his loyalists credit for that. Ultimately I dislike ENIC and do believe there is a ceiling for our coaches which we will likely never smash through under them. But Ange is in the fucking basement, we're atrocious. Case by case basis lads, if there is a coach worth sticking by I'll do it ... this donkey can't beat Ipswich at home, can't look a journalist in the eye and has us losing 3 more than Dyche's Everton.

He's absolutely diabolical. And he has no past history worth throwing faith behind, its all success that absolutely was never going to be close to having a guarantee of translating to Premier League success, no matter what the fuckwits said. 12th place at Christmas with Newcastle, Woolwich and Goodison on the horizon is terrifyingly shit and would be under-performance if bloody Mike Ashley was at the helm.

I swear some people check for Southgate under their bed. Afraid of the club to do anything in case the boogeyman of Southgate is going to get you.

Hiring Southgate would not make changing this manager the wrong decision. It would just mean that we've followed up a good decision with an utterly gormless one. Which we've done before in fairness.

But, in all honesty I'm not sure I see Southgate managing anyone anytime soon, let alone us. I think he's even said that he wants to take some time out and do some other things.

Not read past the first few lines of this but at some point you have to just back the manager to the tilt. Many couldn't do that under Conte and look where it's got the club. Now's your chance to do so again before we fall further again to all of this BS. You not realising that is what's "hilariously dumb" my friend.

I looked at some other clubs, clubs that are usually appreciated by football fans with the way they operate. Here are the number of full-time managers they've each had in the last 20 years:

Dortmund: 11
Barcelona:10
Inter: 13

Each of these clubs had a fair share of "trigger happy" sackings of their own. None of Gasperini, Ranieri, Benitez, De Boer, Bosz, Koeman and Rose enjoyed much time or patience from their respective boards . None of them even made it to the aforementioned 18 month threshold. In fact, most didn't even get a full season. Inter sacked Gasperini after 5 matches, De Boer after 14 matches, and Ranieri after 35 matches. Dortmund sacked Bosz after 24 matches. The list goes on.

The picture is clear to me. We're not trigger happy at all, whatever that means. These clubs would have never tolerated what we have been tolerating since last November. Even though I still prefer him to an interim, if Ange indeed gets the sack soon, it won't be because Levy/board made a rash decision. Far from it.
How many have they had in the last 5 years?

Yeh it was many times when we used Sterling and Rashford not saying it wasn’t effective but it was pretty basic in set up.

Yeah keep backing Ange otherwise we could fall REALLY far. Like as low as 12th in the table with a tough fixture run coming up..

Oh fucking wait.

Honestly, I'll back a manager to the hilt who deserves to be backed to the hilt. Conte had all the qualifications and was/is a hugely competent individual but NEVER wanted to be at Tottenham regardless of owners so it was an exercise in futility. Ange is out of his depth. I don't need to back any out of his depth person for a role by default.

Basic would actually be fine right now. Fuck off the philosophy as we're in a dogfight and focus on winning 3 points every week and take it game by game. Get some sort of organisation back that protects the backline, nothing wrong with lobbing some balls forward for Solanke now and again either.

We are in an absolute state so back to basics is likely what a competent coach will do mid-season. Southgate is never coming here so not sure why people are worried about it anyway, he's essentially a politician now.

The fact that Palmer wasn’t the first name on the team sheet at the euros tells you everything you need to know about Southgate, the guy probably puts a condom on to have a wank just to be on the safe side.

Southgate started early days playing sit deep defend then pass to Kane who puts Rashford and Sterling in. It worked well for a good period. When he started using Foden and Palmer more technical intricate players his system didn’t work so well. Sterling gets laughed at but he creates havoc and disruption. Sterling and Rashford are great for teams who sit and counter into space.

Problem is we tried that with the grand master Jose Mourinho, we tried it with Nuno and it didn’t work. Jose and Nuno are arguably better managers but it doesn’t fit our club.
