Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm sure Jagger can do a job in midfield, still moves well for an old codger

I’ve agreed with pretty much everything you’ve ever written on here. But this time I don’t.

I’m not shocked and outraged by our lack of activity, more disappointed at feeling let down.

We’ve never been in this situation since the transfer window system began, hence why the need to act hasn’t been so urgent.

But our league position and injury list means we should be doing more this month. That we aren’t or haven’t is a disappointment.
So what do you disagree with then? I agree entirely with your post - I'm disappointed that we haven't done more, but I'm not "shocked" - it's just the ludicrous hyperbole that bothers me, perhaps it's my autism (I tend to take everything that is said literally, so when someone says they are 'shocked' when actually they mean 'angry' or 'disappointed' etc then I like to understand whether or not they're just using the wrong words). So I'm not sure where you disagree with me, sounds to me like we are in exactly the same place as each other. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding you somehow. :/

EDIT: My subsequent posts probably help to explain - I wasn't meaning that this transfer window is acceptable at all, just that certain people calling it 'shocking' is a bit silly when there are far more appropriate words given those people's normal opinions. It may be disappointing, but, at least for those who have only ever said bad things about Levy, it shouldn't be 'shocking'.

It's obviously not entirely right.
Ange is buying nicje players for a niche system
Making it all about him

It's why we have bought mediocre front players under him.
Who are on course to score the secong highest amount of goals (potentially the most) since we got promoted in 1978.
It's bleeding obvious our issues are in midfield (Bent's suspension and Bissouma's piss poor consistency) and defence.

How many players can we add to, or change, in our League and Europa squads? Not 100% on the rules here to be honest.
EL squad we can add 2/3 club trained players eg KWP or Winks.
Non club trained players we cannot add any, but we can swap 3 existing members of the squad.
We are likely to swap in Spence and Kinsky so potentially only one new player.
For the EPL squad we can add unlimited players under 21, 2 more HG or NHG players and in addition we could swap Reg and Robson for 2 more.

Levy isn’t buying as long as he is considering sacking Ange surely.

The majority of signings are made because they are good players - and that means most of those good players can fit most managers 'systems'

Given most clubs don't average more than 5 new players in a season and a squad of 25 players, it means a squad isn't entirely remoulded in less than about 5 years - and the average life of a PL manager is less than 2 years, So no almost manager gets a squad full of their ideal players - probably less than 25% of any squad is 'ideal' and 75%+ just good players who can play in most systems

So concerns of Ange leaving shouldn't stop Spurs signing one or two good players who will do well in most systems even if not ideal for Ange's system. The one thing to avoid is old slow players

I still don't get why Spurs fans get so wound up that Spurs don't win anything. They haven't been a club that wins stuff since Football was played by middle-aged men with a Pint in one hand and a fag in the other.

Surely nobody really started supporting Spurs thinking they were backing a 'winning team'? Sure, if you were born in the area, you are stuck with them; but for anyone else, what really was your expectation?

Spurs are just one of the clubs there to make up the numbers. The owners are trying to change that and be successful but have prioritized running the club as a commercial enterprise, rather than a football team.

At least with Ange, every game is an exciting thrill ride, full of emotion - with lots of highs and lows. Imagine if you had to watch an AVB game every week. Even winning was boring.

Gotcha. Can’t argue with a word of that.

Thanks bud. Clear and concise. 👍

Not huge wiggle room. But enough to add a couple of high quality.

Tottenham: "So what are the conditions?"

PSG: "Well we'd expect a little money despite the player no longer being part of our manager's plans."

Player's agent: "And you'd need to pay my client a reasonable wage for a player with his pedigree, despite his age and recent injury issues."

Tottenham: "beep beep beep..."

*Daniel Levy has left the chat*.

Ali Gold: "Tottenham tried to bring in Milan Skriniar but PSG and the player's representatives moved the goalposts last minute. Spurs will now shift their focus to the summer window."

Skriniar would be worse than useless for Spurs - just too slow and static as well as old.

OK for Mourhino or Conte tactics maybe but not for any side that wants an attacking side. Even Ben Davies is a huge step up from Skriniar for Spurs, so doubt if any interest whatsoever in Skriniar

Points well made.

We are desperate. Waiting to save a million might just mean losing tens of millions.

And it's also quite true that in the majority of transfers, there is a bit of smoke.

We are desperate - but acting desperate is surely going to make things worse -

Do we really want to just buy stop gaps that, once our first teamers return will just be sat taking a wage? If not we have to consider loans but players will have to decide if that is what they want to do too.

Honestly, I have no idea what the answer is - buying 3 players to fill in until our first teamers get fit.... will that do a thing? Porro didn't settle for 6 months here - other players have come in and settled straight away like VDV but he had a fit Romero and Udogie next to him.

We need short term fixes mate. That's called loan deals or to take a punt. Doing nothing is going backwards.

We are close to desperate and need to act accordingly
