What Conte was explaining very clearly was the culture at THFC.

He spoke of selfish players who play for themselves rather than the team or for the pride of the club and the supporters.

Conte explained how he had managed to raise their levels in the short term, the previous season, and achieved an upturn but then in the 2nd season the team had relapsed into failure and become worse. He stated this had never happened to him anywhere else in his career.

He cited the culture of the club being one of failure and excuses being made for the players to protect them, (or their financial value to the owner), while undermining any manager attempting to establish a winning mentality or culture at THFC.

Conte was right and many of the players who let him down, most notibly Romero, are still here letting the current manager down.

Conte was right.

Levy has subsequently hired a manager who will do everything that Conte describes here.

Ange makes excuses for the board's failure to sign the correct players or players for now.

Ange sites bad luck with injuries rather than explain the reality of why his hands are tied.

Excuses, excuses, excuses excuses.

Conte was right.

A culture of failure, from the top down, perpetuated by weak, substandard people who are prepared to make excuses for failure. Winning is hard remember. To dare is too dear.

There is no ambigiuty in Conte's words and no lack of passion or desire in the manner he spoke them.
Having said that, you’ve said it all.
I remember a time when we routinely broke the transfer record to get the best players we could.
I remember a time when the club strained every sinew to win trophies.
I remember a time when the manager’s word was law.
I remember a time when we really had glory nights, under the lights at the Lane.
I remember a time when fans went through financial hardship to follow this club.
I remember a time when ALL the clubs resources were for the manager’s plans.

I don’t remember go karts.
I don’t remember a ground built specifically for a foreign sport.
I don’t remember pop concerts.
I don’t remember my club being a laughing stock.
I don’t remember the white shirt looking like a notice board.
And above all, I don’t remember being gaslit by an increasingly despotic owner.

After 60 0dd years, every season, my club moves a little further away from me.

Fantastic post mate. To read that from someone who’s seen the lot is sad.

What are we going to do about it?

If Newcastle win the LC then Howe stays. If he doesn’t then I’m not sure that shows he’s the man to make us title winners.

Frank never won anything at Brondby and the Play-Offs final is his biggest honour at Brentford. How does that make him the man to turn us into title winners?
The first step will be to make us competitive in the league again. Top six is a long way off, title winners is talk from a different universe entirely.

That’s our goal right?

That’s what the move to the stadium was meant to bring. That’s the stick we get beaten with, never winning trophies.

Surely we’re looking for a coach who will steer us to trophies?
Title winners certainly isn't the goal of the board. Can you find any statements from Levy or the board to say that the aim is to become title contenders? I can't, because that's not their ambition.

We are looking for a coach that's hopefully the right fit for the club who can improve us.

Me personally, i'm not like the majority that continuously talk about "the tottenham way" and wanting an attack minded coach. I'd prefer a balanced coach over an attacking one and I think both the names I've mentioned have a good balance.
