Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm not sure that is wholly true

Carrick said he wanted a move to ManU (only 12 months or so after we rescued him from Wham bench) so we accepted the situation and sold him for £17m and invested £11m in Berbatov

Sadly Berbatov was tapped up by ManU and we couldn't persuade him to stay so we sold him for £30m ..... big problem was sourcing a replacement.

But I think its probably more accurate to call it 'Player trading' rather than 'selling club' as we did actually increase the quality of our overall squad via these sales as we did re-invest in the squad and did reasonably well out of it ....... although I'd have loved to have seen Carrick and Berbatov play in the same Spurs side
You could possibly apply that to Carrick but definitely DEFINITELY not to Berbatov and Keane, we had already done the majority of our major business in 07/08 summer before either of Keane or Berbs left and only spent that money in the Jan window. I also don't think our frontline was ever as good again as Keane/Berbatov until Kane hit his stride.

It is a different era; but the kind of sales we're talking about should really only be necessary for clubs with shit revenue levels (Villa, Forest) or that have burned a whole fuckload of cash on duds (Chavs).

...........Clubs like us, Arse, Liverpool and defo Man U should be able to keep that from being necessary by selling numerous lesser academy players instead.
Producing funds from the academy is also very important, but for both financial and just classic Fergie keep the culture fresh perspective you need to be getting full value for an important player every now and again.

Mane from Liverpool, Alvarez from City, this is the way.

Letting the Poch team go so stale by refusing to be a "selling club" was a mega miscalculation that we're only now digging our way out of.

Poch knew this and Levy wouldn't listen.

4 year deal and wages all agreed. Just need Tel to decide he wants to come here! Basically if any of Chelsea, Woolwich or United want to hijack us then its there for them! Hopefully Tel decides today as the longer this drags on the more torturous it'll become

Agree. While he has loads of potential, he hasn't produced anything to date in his career. I actually want to go the loan route first for 18 months to see if he can adapt to EPL before paying a large outlay.

An 18 month, no-commitment loan? .... For a player with numerous top EPL clubs interest?

Mate you're not living in the real world.

If he stayed here for 18 months and proved to be a hit still only aged 21; Munich would keep him at the end of the loan.
