Producing funds from the academy is also very important, but for both financial and just classic Fergie keep the culture fresh perspective you need to be getting full value for an important player every now and again.

Mane from Liverpool, Alvarez from City, this is the way.

Letting the Poch team go so stale by refusing to be a "selling club" was a mega miscalculation that we're only now digging our way out of.

Poch knew this and Levy wouldn't listen.

Mate... Duran is a 21 y/o prem quality striker who had a bright future.

Not remotely the same thing as Klopp letting go of Mane aged 30.

...........Selling Duran wasn't about refreshing old parts; it was cashing in before a likely boom. If anything; the above suggests selling Watkins instead was the smart (Mane, Kane) move.

You could possibly apply that to Carrick but definitely DEFINITELY not to Berbatov and Keane, we had already done the majority of our major business in 07/08 summer before either of Keane or Berbs left and only spent that money in the Jan window. I also don't think our frontline was ever as good again as Keane/Berbatov until Kane hit his stride.

Our problem with Berbatov and Keane is both wanted to leave and neither ManU or Liverpool wanted to pay much for them so it got dragged out to end of window (not our choice), so, as you say we reinvested in January (including re-signing Keane if I recall right as his move to his 'boyhood club' didn't work out so we resigned at a slight discount to his price to Liverpool).

BTW I think ManU and Liverpool mainly wanted the players as Spurs, with those 2 attackers' wre a big threat to them. So their buying tactics were designed to disrupt Spurs as much as possible, hence the very late deal for Berbatov for £30m was , despite ManU's moans, a low price for a very good striker. However he never thrived at ManU as he didn't fit their side ...... one of the results of the buying being a disruption tactic rather than actually identifying and buying the best striker for their side.

It’s a done deal!!!! Just saw him on the high road!!!! :mickyarm:
Do you have any of him doing the skywalk just to be sure?

Richy can’t stay fit, Solanke is out, even just to have a target man for the rest of the season then get Dibling on the wing I assume in the summer is better than nothing. We then will need to replace Richy and if Tel is only a loan with another striker.

If the window is Tel and Tomori then it’s something even if way too late.
Tomori isn’t good enough..quote me on this

Genuinely....... Newest figures I could find were from May.... I already posted those.

You comments suggest you have some frame of reference?

Scum just bid 60m for Watkins.... Why couldn't they big that same amount for Tel now?
Woolwich are somewhat the exception to be fair, I could see them finding the Tel money in their PSR headroom, however it is patently clear from United's bargain bin shopping in the summer and their protracted attempts to sell one/both of Rashford and Garnacho this window that they cannot afford to bring in new signings until they've cleared themselves some PSR headroom, likewise Chelsea avoided a violation this time last year through that hooky hotel sale and haven't been nearly as active either this window or in the summer as they have been. Again with Villa it seems to make little sense that they would sell Duran, who was playing very well for them, and then turn around and spend nearly an equal amount of money and more wages on a much less proven player in Tel, not to mention the dodgy deal they did with Saudi to sell Diaby who was a complete fucking car crash and yet still managed to recoup 60m euros for him... all points to not a ton of PSR wiggle room to seriously compete for his signature, at least in this financial period.

It doesn't take a genius to work out why certain clubs have drastically changed their spending habits just as FFP/PSR starts to have some actual teeth, does it?

4 year deal and wages all agreed. Just need Tel to decide he wants to come here! Basically if any of Chelsea, Woolwich or United want to hijack us then its there for them! Hopefully Tel decides today as the longer this drags on the more torturous it'll become

Surely we'd need to know by the morning latest if its a goer in order to get the sufficient time needed to get alternative plates spinning through the door.

You specifically mentioned Arse and Chavs.........

Arse: See prev. re Watkins bid.
Chavs not spending: I'll believe it when I see it.

Maybe, depends what kind of offers were out there on Watkins.

The point on the Duran deal is that they cashed in at full value, if not a little moreso.

Those are opportunities it is extremely valuable for clubs to take, even the very richest and strongest ones. That allows them to be active in the recruitment market and climb the ladder of squad value.

Players are not durable assets, not even 21 year olds. If you get an offer for more than their value you are missing an opportunity by not taking it.

The Levy method of making deals impossible in both directions was a failed strategy.

There is a number for which every player in our squad ought to be let go. If Real Madrid will give us a huge bag for Romero we should take it, to use a publicized example.

If one player is irreplaceable in your strategy you have a bad strategy.
