But but why do we always play out from the back and take risks?

Freeze that video at 44 seconds. We have 7 men forward in the 86th minute, 1-0 up at Brentford... But it was still 100% the right thing for Sarr to make that run and try to kill the game.

Compare it to the Wolves home game where we lost a lead by sitting back and not being ambitious enough to kill it and the number of times you see teams lose 1-0 leads. Attacking to kill the game in that situation IS pragmatic.

The ends justifies the means..... however I don't like it.

I don't like Bergval inviting pressure, then going all the way back to the keeper, then *nearly* losing the ball in a very dangerous position.

Its a tactic with very fine margins and high risk. However, that IS Angeball in a nutshell. Great when it succeeds, coach killing when it doesn't.

Bergvall didn't really invite pressure though, we use that passing pattern as a press-breaker all the time. Ball goes back to the GK, then to the 6 with a player behind him, then 1 touch to the CB or FB and we are away.

Defending deeper and deeper is just as fine margins and just as high risk. It's all about perception vs reality.

We got we needed ( at the end of the day ) ; as we can all appreciate and be grateful for .

We’re in with a shout for three Cups .

We might end up with nothing .

Why not give him enough
reel to the end of the season ?

We’ve already bottomed out . Let’s see if he can do anything from here .

If we crash out of the cups yet finish 15th ; then that’s job done, and hopefully our supreme leader has someone lined up .

Until that day comes ; I’ll back the only manager we have . He’s still got time and opportunities to win something .

It’s a fact .
Just because he won a single game?? What about the many games he's lost..I predicted that the Ange in mob would be out in force if we won...

Lovely goal, and of course it looks good when it works.

The question remains however as to why we need to go all the way back to the keeper when we're already advancing up the pitch. In the first ten seconds of that clip alone, Spence had made a promising run down the left flank only for Sarr to defer backwards.

My favourite part of that goal is Sonny playing PMS through on goal - imo we don't see anywhere near enough play through the middle of the pitch. Not helped by how often we turn over possession with poor passes or positioning.

December 1 we had the second best goal difference in the league and 6 points off second with a game in hand. We then had all the injuries in the world while managing three cup runs which we are still in.

You’d think that Ange was the worst manager in the world with some of the posts in here, whereas he might have just managed us through the worst patch of injuries in recent memory while keeping the dream alive in the cups.

The proof will be in the pudding as they say. Will players come back and see a massive uptick in league form and some silver wear? If so, then could easily see him staying for next year.

Ange in!!! Never doubted the guy!! We're winning the lot!! #COYS

Jokes aside, thank fuck for that. Basically means we're safe and we can breathe a bit.

As for the game, we were pretty crap, gave Brentford the ball and let them huff and puff and try to break us down, and we got a bit fortunate with the way things went, the xG says they should have won it pretty handily (2.4 -- 0.9). But a win is a win. Who knew what a bit of solid defending can do now and again eh?

I'm guessing our football gave Ange an aneurysm. Cos it goes against all his "principles" or whatever. My guess is that the players are just utterly fed up of losing and decided themselves they weren't gonna leave themselves too open in this one. We'll never know. Either way, more of that against Liverpool please, it's the only way we're not getting hammered in that one.

Some notes on the game:

- Moore really looked his age out there and was rightly shanked. He has some growing to do for sure. Definitely there's a lot of potential there but for all those moaning about why he's not been starting, there's your answer. He's not ready for the big leagues, yet.

- Spence our best player. Kept Mbeumo pretty quiet. He's so much better than Porro defensively. Every Spence MOTM makes Ange's decision to freeze him out look increasingly baffling.

- Richarlison again proving he's not a viable centre forward. Can't keep hold of the ball to save his life. We need to sell him before he injures himself and we're stuck with him. Solanke's return can't come any sooner.

- Wasn't particularly impressed with Brentford. If this was Frank's Spurs audition, he failed it, and for exactly the reason I was concerned about; he doesn't seem to know what to do in possession. We let them have the ball, they huffed and puffed, and basically spammed low xG crosses for 90 minutes against the worst defence in the league. I think that xG value flatters them too, I can't remember them creating much of note with any good passages of play. They were able to work it out of defence OK but I put that more on our crap high press than anything special they did.

Anyway, guess that basically means Ange has the rest of the season. We'll see how that goes. Again I don't think today was any indication of an upturn in performances. We were largely crap. We beat Brentford playing them at their own game but on another day could have easily lost that. Anyway... COYS

Well I guess it's lucky Ange didn't sell him for 8million like you suggested last july

Fair point. Also there's the £8m from Parrott, so that's £18 from him and Rodon. Then, conservatively:

Emerson £18m
Hojbjerg £15m
Gio £12m
Reguilon £8m
Skipp £12m
Gil £7m
Spence £8m
Richy £40m

That's an additional £120, but we won't manage to ship all those players, I imagine a few will be loans. We probably won't find any takers for Solomon either.

:cautious: :D
