Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The alleged bid was made some days ago.
Even so, the task of replacing a player of the calibre of Guehi with a few days to go in the window is far too great to make the extra £20m or so they could squeeze out of us now vs in the summer with a year remaining on his deal, compared to the potential loss in prize money (£3m per place and you can guarantee they would plummet down the table without Guehi) as well as sponsorship revenue and the added difficulty of bringing players to a club that finished the season in freefall, vs one that cantered to a strong mid table finish, I just don't think there was ever a chance this was getting done this window.

Why did they bid so late for a player who's obviously seen as a starter for years to come?
The bid for Guehi very likely means Spurs are resigned to losing Romero and also don't see either Dragusin or Denso as a regular starters, unless van de Ven's hamstring is so bad that they think he'll be out 2-3 times a season...

Not to mention the extra games in European comps this season, some teams playing 4 additional fixtures compared to the old format to reach the same stage of the tournament. Seems strange that we recognised in the 90s that high fixture load wasn't conducive to high quality football when the league capacity was reduced but now the powers that be are taking us backwards in terms of player welfare in favour of maximising their own revenue. At the end of the day, why should a load of suits be able to make decisions that massively affect players' welfare and long term careers without any input from the players themselves?
The really annoying thing is because of how tribal football support is, any manager or player who speaks out about this issue is largely derided by rival fans with platitudes like "everyone else has to deal with it", "player X moaning again, surprise surprise" etc etc, do we as fans really want more games squeezed into the calendar than ever if the cost is having elite players spending months at a time in the physio room with muscular injuries? I don't think we do tbh.

Fifa were/are trying to get the world cup increased to every 2 years instead of 4.
No doubt Uefa would then try to have 2 Euro's and we'd have a tournament every single summer.

I really don't international football anymore. It's almost always a bunch of tired players lethargically trudging around in a hot arse summer venue that was bought with dirty money.
Be nice if all the big name players pushed back and refused the call ups.

Textbook Levy.

Spence pretty much pocketed Salah in the League Cup first leg. I'm not sure that having trouble against Spence is an indication that the player isn't good.
True - Brentford also play counter attacking football all the time though and I don't think I have ever seen Mbeumo do anything class if it wasn't on a counter attack. Hes a good player I just don't think hes a game changing winger for us.

So many games for the fans too- if every game is special than nothing is that special anymore.

Once the window has closed I would not be surprised to hear that Romero needs an operation as rest and physio is not working, and he’s effectively out for the rest of the season. And that he won’t sign a contract extension which means Levy will be selling him this summer (which he should). That coupled with Mickey not yet being 100% and Dragusin looking at smoking spell out is why we’re looking at Danso plus another CB this window.

It's destroying the product as well.

The Premier League is barely exciting to watch now because the formula has grown into one where teams try to reduce the load with shithousing, timewasting, and game models to control the periods when they are attacking only. Players will kill ther own counter attacks instead of trying something creative because that coaches game model prefers to have control instead creativity.

He scored that unbelievable volley against us, but I agree he thrives on transitions, as do most forwards. Finding those guys who can break set defences is bloody hard.

They should do away with relegating the bottom 3 and instead relegate all teams that fail to reach 40 points over the course of the season...

I'm only half joking.

you offer Palace 70 million on Jan 1st and they'd probably bite your arm off, on the last day of the window when they'd have no time for a replacement, it's highly unlikely

We see you Levy

This is what pisses me off about the nations league. They've essentially just glorified international friendlies that used to see the kind of players get gametime who don't usually get a look-in for their nation, but now because there's "silverware" on offer, International managers are compelled to play strong teams.
