Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

People doing way too much in this thread.

Just a couple of weeks ago I was reading that Ange was to blame for playing Romero when he was hurt before he got injured.
Now we are saying Romero only turns up Argentina and isn't committed to Spurs.
In between that time everyone praised him for calling out the board to support the squad more.

He either played through the pain barrier for the team or he didn't and if he did, then he's committed to the team.

Is it likely he moves this summer? Sure but that doesn't mean he won't be back soon and throwing himself into places where he knows it will hurt for this football team. If anything the rest will have been good for him and he will be playing his best football all season. Even if partly motivated to attract big bids, who cares? If we are going to let him move on, let's hope he plays out of his mind and the price goes up 10m.

People don’t half chat some shit. Yes, he may move on in the summer. He’s a guy that should be playing CL every year, he’s that good.

As for him being made of glass, ducking out. It’s such bollox. It was well documented that he’s not had a proper summer off for 3 years, played a whole WC in the winter. Has travelled more miles than any footballer. He was gonna suffer at some point due to the insane football calendar.

Think its clear hes off this summer - probably already agreed and tbh even as a fan who thinks hes a brilliant player, I am not fussed if he goes.
A new contract would mean over 200k a week for a player that is laid up for three months every season and can't be relied upon and sadly VDV has been that way too.
Decisions are going to be made on both this summer and next season respectively I think. C
We can't go on like this as good as they are when fit.

Exactly. His situation was pretty much identical to Rodri except he'd done more miles in the air by a long margin.

We always have to have a hate figure tho.

Eh?

They were proactive and tried to get the replacement in early. It's clear Guehi is the player they have chosen and they bid a big amount in the hope that Palace could be swayed (which was never really going to happen but there was still a little chance).

Romero is a known bum that prioritises everything over Spurs and has done for years (with his injury niggles and his miraculous recovery just before international games) but now its in addition to his atrocious performances and no showing when all other injured players are together he will be flogged. We tried to get his replacement in early and failed but at least we've identified the player early.

If we really wanted him why make a big bid on the last day of the window? Just use your brain. Palace would always say no to this offer.

If that’s the player you have identified above all else bid early and make him start making moves behind the scenes. Give palace time to find a replacement.

Instead this 23rd hour bid just seems like what it was. A waste of time.

All it’s really done is started a starting point bidding figure in the summer for Newcastle and Chelsea to argue over.

He puts Argentina way ahead of the club and that’s a major part of the problem. Remember Ange refused permission for him to go and play in the Olympics in the summer?!

He turns it on for the national team, but he’s been unreliable, unavailable and generally appeared uninterested in THFC.

I’ve never really felt he wanted to be here , seems to play for himself , ill disciplined , not in the sense that he gets booked often , more that he goes marauding off to chase a guy so he can give him a little kick and leaves us wide open . I also feel it’s odd he’s not on the bench with the other injured players , the guy is vice captain and should be setting an example . He’s fit about 60% of the time , we need to cash in and get someone more reliable in . I also think hes best in a back 3 and not sure our system suits him that well . Would be a great buy for United for example.

When his heads in it he’s one of the best centre backs in the world. Don’t particularly like him though since that Chelsea game last year. You can tell was clearly trying to get sent off. He got away with one and then does that, was going to keep on trying until he went. I don’t know why, wanted a couple of weeks off, on the take from someone at Chelsea but from that moment we have kind of capitulated as a team with injuries and form. Like what he said about ENIC though.

Never fully warmed to the bloke if I'm honest. He's a good player who's missed 60+ games for us in the last 3.5 seasons through injury, and another 5+ games through suspension. As others have said, he's great for Argentina and good (sometimes great, sometimes terrible) for us. If someone wants to offer us a decent sum in the summer then off he goes, and I won't lose a moments sleep over it.

When this stuff gets reported and when it actually happens is different mate

You're very hung up on the reported rather than when the bid was actually submitted, which I think ibread was a week before we heard about it

Nah I am not having it. I dont question his loyalty, I dont care too much about that aspect.

He is often unavailable and injured and it wasnt any different under Conte. If he is so highly rated, what is it that makes him great? From my perspective he is a good passer who can create decent situations and actually a solid goalscorer. He lacks in defending: 1v1, heading, positioning. Mind you he also fucked us over last season with Chelsea at home.

He can be a good player and I think a lot of our play was started by him and his passing out of defence, we’ve missed that massively.

If we can get a similar quality replacement who can do the same then great, sell him. But that’s not always possible. It’s a tough one. I’m on the fence. We’ve got bigger issues than him in this team.

The injuries are a huge problem. I think his contract situation kind of takes care of the situation either way. He spoke out against the leadership (a good thing) but that will probably hasten his exit.
