Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

You have your opinion; I have mine.

I see so many similarities with what happened to Marcus Edwards at Spurs that I can no longer buy into any of the crap that is spouted by the brown nosing journalists who 'hear things' from the club.

Both Edwards and Spence found it difficult to get game time at Spurs when they clearly had more ability than players that got game time.

Both were loaned to Daniel Farke teams and subsequently had their character assasinated with whispered rumours of having the wrong attitude, being difficult, or keeping the wrong company off the pitch.

There was talk of Edwards having contractual issues during his time at Spurs. Spence managed to get his new contract sorted before he began being picked regularly.

Neither you or I really know the real reasons why Spence was left out for 18 months when he is clearly a very talented footballer.

Whatever the reason was it makes Spurs look foolish.

Who continually makes Spurs look foolish?

That's cool. Like I said you're allowed to have your conspiracy theories - I don't necessarily agree. It appears on face value to be the same story we see repeated across sports all over the world - talented youngster needs to grow up and become a professional to maximise his talent.

But you could be right. Fair enough. I don't understand why talented players with the correct professional attitude would be frozen out by people at the club but who knows?

As long as we get the facts right. And the facts are that, since almost being flogged to Genoa in July, Spence has followed a pretty standard path from talented fringe player to outstanding squad member and I'm all for that. Bloke could be anything. Love him.

From the BBC

Djed Spence has been dribbled past 3 times this season…..

Udogie 11 times

Pedro porro 26 times…

we are..or at least want to be a front foot attacking team, Porro is number one as he is superior in this regard. progressive passes, xg, axg, big chance creation, shot creating, progressive carries etc etc are all bound to be higher. which is why he starts
If we were to get another coach who want's more balance i'd expect Djed to be more heavily favoured. with our transitional weakness Djed has certainly been better for us than Udogie

Also Spence doesn't jump into the press too late and too rashly. I like Porro but he makes the same mistakes over and over. I don't trust him any more even though I like him as a character and a footballer.

That's so kind.

So I have your permission and approval?

Regards to Daniel.

Cheers mate.

:sonpoint:

Umm... it's the very definition of a conspiracy theory isn't it? You believe there has been a conspiracy to freeze Spence out of the club, don't you?

I'm not sure I understand who is to blame for this though? Is it Levy? Didn't Levy buy Spence when Conte didn't want him? Why would Levy subsequently freeze him out? Or isn't that what you're saying?

Another defining attribute of conspiracy theories is that they're very hard to comprehend when viewed objectively. 🤷‍♂️

But I agree with you that Spence is the best defender at the club.

Spence was a club signing according to Conte.

Conte and Ange were both hired by the miser to 'pick the team'.

Neither Conte or Ange picked Spence for the team on a regular basis until two years after Spence was signed.

Conte was sacked.

Ange is under pressure.

Levy is under pressure.

Spence is the best full back at the club.

Who is being subjective or objective in this thread?

So it's the guy who bought the player you rate ,not the guy who didn't play him that is the issue.

we have had some good chats mate - but honestly, you sound like a MAGA cultist whose every thought or instinct they have starts with 'Joe Biden'

Everything I read of yours starts with the premise that it is Levy's fault and you find a way to that conclusion however you can...

And just like a MAGA cultist, I know you won't be able to see it or get it.... but it's there, it's real, and it's weird.

100% nailed it.

An exhausting waste of time..... It's all a big mush of conspiracy theory and confirmation bias.... No matter what the topic.

Again most of your posting is pure conjecture but the bit in bold is simply factually incorrect. Again I suggest you look at the FACTUAL timeline I've written up. Spence was being integrated slowly bu surely into the first team squad rotation until he, Spence, got injured. Not "injured" - there was no conspiracy. He had a groin injury.

Spence's first start was at RB vs Southampton. He played Vs Nottingham Forrest and got two yellow cards so was suspended for Wolves which is the game where Udogie got injured. These are facts. Ignoring them is weird.

I agree with you that Spence is better than Porro but that is simply our preference.

I'm a huge Spence fan but there is more than enough circumstantial evidence to suggest the problem has never been his talent but his application. There's overwhelming evidence to suggest that he's grown as a person and, with the support of the manager, now an integral part fo our first team squad.

This is objectively a good thing. I don't understand your need to drag it through the mud but that's fine - it's your opinion. But please get the facts right.

right, don't think there' s any great mystery here.

I feel Ange is a fairly straight shooter and he's mentioned on a few occasions since Djed has been back in the side that he needed to mature as a person, and now he has.
"We needed Djed to be patient and mature a little bit, and I think he has." - Ange after Brentford

Conte rather played Emerson Royal, and Matt doherty over him

Farke sent him back to us mid loan - Leeds manager Daniel Farke has suggested concerns over Djed Spence's attitude and punctuality (evening standard)

this was from a journalist when he got his loan move to Italy:

“Spence has gone to Genoa, never to return, from what I’m hearing. There seems to be issues. I’m hearing things that suggest he has a lot of maturity left to find let’s just say,”
By the sounds of it, Spence does carry a bit of an ego with him, but the penny now has to drop for the player.

His career is going in the wrong direction, and surely after playing for four clubs in 18 months he realises that something has to change.

Who knows? Maybe a spell in Italy could be just what he needs to get his head down and get back on track, but, by the sounds of it, he won’t be playing for Tottenham again anytime soon.

Let’s hope that Spence can get his head straight and start moving in the right direction again.

Rather than question why he's not played, I think he should be applauded for turning it around, as we've seen many young footballers just fail at Premier league level because of their Attitude

Just because you write a big post doesn’t make it correct. I need to trust my own understanding of the issue as it has progressed. The argument I see from you is revisionism.

I don’t want to waste time arguing pedantic details with you. Simply accept that I don’t agree Ange would have used Spence if he wasn’t forced to by injury.

And I really resent that you somehow attach my name to low level Ange name calling- I’ve never derided him as a “fat fuck” or anything of the sort- for you to accuse me of that is gross and despicable.

In fact I have found reason to praise him in certain ways including that I like the idea of his football and think it almost works.

But to say I’m attached to calling him a fat cunt or things of that sort- disgusting- you can do better than that.
There are a few Levy apologists trolling the forum today bud.

Rallying the troops behind the 'project'.

Anyone rocking the boat will be tagged for a sin binning if they can pull it off.

They're pulling you back onside because you're stepping outside of the narrative.

Join me and the pitchfork gang if you like.

We will be banging spoons together and erecting the stocks soon.

The fun is just beginning.

Spence has not 'turned it around'

It's not Dele or Rashford.

Spence has been denied playing time while inferior players; Doherty, Royal, Porro and Udogie have been picked for the side, over a two year period.

To be perfectly honest Spence would be completely justified in having a bad attitude for being left out behind these players, having been persuaded to sign for Spurs, then loaned to managers and situations where information about his alledged character failings were leaked to the press.

It's clearly bullshit.

Spence is proving himself to be a player with ability and the elusive winning mentality that has been sadly lacking at THFC for decades.

I now fully understand why Spurs were considering selling Harry Kane for 600K to Leicester before Tim Sherwood, or Dim Shitwood as he was affectionately tagged in a similar manner to Spence, insisted that Kane was ready to step up.

At THFC good things happen by accident is how it looks.

The facts are as follows;

The club (Levy) signed Djed Spence while Conte was the manager and he made his feelings clear.

The club (Levy) then sacked Conte and appointed Ange.

Ange has 'chosen' to initially overlook Spence, from team selection, for best part of 18 months.

Ange has then 'chosen' to select Spence for the team, during an injury crisis, but only play him at left back, despite assertions from many that Porro is 'tired' and overplayed.

I know you won't be able to see it or get it.... but it's there, it's real, and it's weird.

There are also a bunch of cults, on various THFC forums, who continue to apologise for and defend this weirdness by attempting to insult anyone who questions it, on a personal level, by conflating the truth and calling for banning orders .

What a bunch of weirdo's.

:gallashmm:
The odd thing about Conte and there’s a bloody long list. He now just refuses to work with young players. It's odd because he can and is good at making players. Victor Moses wide forward to title winning wingback. Same with Ashley Young.

He clearly had the hump and flat out refused to consider Djed for selection, this would understandably hurt the player. If he had tried he'd have found out all the deeply suspect attitude talk was hiding an exceptionally talented player perfect for his system.

Spence became collateral in a power play and credulous folk were very quick to pile in. I'm delighted he's now shown everyone his talent because if ever we're we stupid enough to sleep on him he now has some very high profile admirers I'm told. So it's going to be fascinating if he gets to challenge Porro for his favoured position Spence will have him on toast in a genuine meritocracy.

I have had my own suspicions that Spence just didn't really want to play at the clubs he was on loan at because his goal was to play for Spurs. And that was the real reason behind his struggles,

Now he's had a chat with Ange who saw the talent and after his coaching team like Matt Wells also made a case for Djed, for the first time Djed was given a route into the first team here that he felt he could actually achieve and he's decided to make it happen.

I 100% think this is the story.

My view has always been that Conte wanted a player like Djed Spence but proven.

This is what has happened to several managers under ENIC.

When an ENIC THFC manager wants a particular type of player one of Levy's many dof stooges goes into full Gregg Wallace mode and takes the "Eat Well For Less" approach to the transfer.

"So you want a top quality right wing back Antonio"? We can't afford the wages of the player you want us to bring in so how about Djed Spence?

This was reflected in the first bit of dissent from Conte with his remarks on the Spence signing.

What beggars belief is that we then hire a new coach and Spence is binned off and slated.

What a way to run a fucking football club.

Spence has clearly happened by accident; just like Harry Kane, and the bullshit narratives to cover this obvious truth just tumble out of the mouths of the same clowns who justify Levyology no matter how crass or embarrassing the reality of the situation is.

Yep spot on. And I hate to say this but I'm not going to ignore the Elephant. Kane got time and patience loads of loans that didn't really stick without this having any reflection on who he is as a human. Now the blokes a fantastic human...but it's funny how some narratives quickly make some kinds of people bad as opposed to others. I'm just glad both these brilliant players have thrived almost despite THFC best efforts. The club is so fucking haphazard.

I'm a little worried for some of the young guys Hall, Adjay, Donnely too if I'm honest. I don't see a very certain road map.

Dude, that makes no sense so much supposition and heresay.

The ultimate fact is that he is here, he is playing, and he is playing well.

Club signing playing well for the club..... should be fucking celebrated.
