Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Was concerned it was a bad fit and the other day's performance didn't help his case.

As Adam Clery pointed out in his excellent video, he's best as an inside left forward. Spoiler: that's where our captain plays, and this system hasn't suited him, so I'm not sure why it would suit Tel?

It's also where Odobert and Moore are best so it's not like we don't already have plenty of teenagers coming through the pipeline there. (What we actually needed was a RW but this club seems incapable of identifying one and intent on shoehorning ill fitting players into the role. Spence the other night LOL, who's next, Porro?)

And the other day's performance solidified what I already thought: Tel is not a striker, can't play with his back to goal. So he's not gonna give Solanke much to worry about, and doesn't seem like he's gonna be great long term #9 rotation.

I hope I'm proven wrong but feels to me like Tel's decision not to come here on a permanent might have saved us from making a £50m mistake.

Tel is someone that could be our long-term successor to Son. My guess is the club is looking at it from that perspective.

It's a very strange deal to say the least. The player didn't seem fully onboard with joining us. I can't see how that will end up well unless we have some kind of massive turnaround of form, or sack Ange and hire a manager that Tel favors.
