I don’t buy into this whole “checking out” theory. He’s been out injured for the entire time people have claimed he’s giving us the finger. He comes back, has played adequately and has been his normal fiery, passionate self in all of the matches.
He clearly loves his country more than Spurs but that is hardly unique. I would venture to guess if you asked every professional would they rather win a WC for their country or the most prestigious club trophy for their current club, the results would be overwhelmingly the former.
