Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don’t buy into this whole “checking out” theory. He’s been out injured for the entire time people have claimed he’s giving us the finger. He comes back, has played adequately and has been his normal fiery, passionate self in all of the matches.

He clearly loves his country more than Spurs but that is hardly unique. I would venture to guess if you asked every professional would they rather win a WC for their country or the most prestigious club trophy for their current club, the results would be overwhelmingly the former.

If we get a top offer and he’s wanting to leave, then it is what it is. But I assure you that Danso or Dragusin will be a significant downgrade on Romero.

Dragusin yes. 100pc. Danso, much less so. I agree that Romero has quite a bit Danso doesn't, but not a huge downgrade across the board.

Danso doesn’t pass my eye test. I think he’s essentially just another Dragusin. They’re both decent depth options but not guys you want starting every week.

Danso and Romero are just about the same age, it’s not as if we can expect Danso to suddenly morph into anything he isn’t already. Romero has already proven he can excel at the highest level of the sport.

He was. And he is one of our best players and about to enter his peak years. His passing is incredible, he’s the best anttacking the ball from set pieces at both ends, and he makes us a much, much better team. Yes he started the season terribly, and was awful in his first game back, but I am confident he will get back to his best quickly. If him and VdV remain fit we can win the EL.

Not in OUR box he's not.

Excelled at skiving as well.

Surprised, he played the full match. What match fitness? Lol. Ange eased him so well.

Looking at his IG page, people who don't know football would have thought he plays for Argentina as a club and us as his international country. Noticed even his intro he put Adidas Football before the club handle. Fucking hell.

I have zero issue with country first (wish more England players were like this, Harry Kane is) but Romero for me skirts that line where he seems to be taking the piss sometimes.

“This club needs winners!”

“Not that one though. Different kind of winner”.

He’s a winner because Lionel Messi is Argentinian, can we stop pretending otherwise? Lo Celso is a winner. So are many other average Argentinians who were lucky to play alongside the best player ever.

Romero is a good player, but may not really want to play here (especially with no Europe) and doesn’t appear overly dedicated to us. That might not be true but it’s a perception he does very little to change.

As long as we also stop pretending Messi won the World Cup on his own, aye. Argentina didn’t win the trophy because of Romero, but he played his part.

As for him not wanting to be here and being dedicated to us, he probably doesn’t and isn’t. Teams are full of players who would get whiplash if their names were mentioned in the same sentence as Real Madrid. There’s a lot more of those players than there are of the “loyal, one club, supported them since I was a kid” variety.

He’s one of our better players. We are better with him than without. The only reason to not want him to remain is his lack of availability, and I get that. But he’s certainly good enough to be one of the first names on the sheet here when he is fit and available.

Great… let’s go sign some of the other cogs in that Argentina team then, see if it makes us winners. Think we’d swiftly find out Messi and a couple of other elite players were what the rest just orbited around.

Yeah but he stands out especially, hence continual criticism of this nature. Other players don’t attract it. He does. Why?

He handed the opposition a lot of points at the start of the season. He’s a good but flawed centre back whose commitment and availability is questionable. Frankly I could take or leave him if a decent enough bid came him.
