Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think young players see us as a stepping stone in their careers, as they'll get playing time and put themselves in the shop window for a CL club to come calling.
If players like Lucas and Archie continue to progress and develop at the rate they have done, in a struggling team, we won’t be able to hold onto them.

Maybe so, but that doesn't excuse Romero or the buffoonery of Postecoglou in taking him off against Fulham. That's stackable in of itself for its sheer stupidity.

Surely nobody can blame him,

Anyone who has won a World Cup and has an ounce of ambition would want to be away from this club as instantaneously as they could be?
This is how I feel. I don't blame him for wanting to be at a serious club that can win trophies, and I don't blame him for being upset at the mismanagement of his injury, and the mismanagement of all injuries generally at the club needs to be exposed.

I respect him for believing he's among the best at his craft, and that he should be playing for the best clubs and the best honors. He sees us wanking about with a skinflint wage bill and reluctance to pay money for quality in the transfer market and a manager who's a joke and so he wants out. It's only natural.

This kind of ambition should be in the heart of every great player, but unfortunately with our ownership and manager, we don't appeal to players like this.

We've an unserious, unambitious owner and board, we've an unserious lower league manager at best, and an unserious back room and medical staff.

So why would a World Cup champion want to play here when Madrid or any other ambitious club is sniffing around?

But how about staying professional while he's still under contract and being paid by the club? Is being ambitious and a WC winner excusable from being a prick?
No, though star athletes can be mercurial and such it has always been, unprofessional conduct is never acceptable.

I was only commenting on the fact that I understand why Romero doesn't want to be at Spurs any longer. I wish he wanted to be at my club, but I regard him positively for wanting something better.

Nail on head, I'm surprised that our fans can't see this - if we can see it then players can defiantely see it.

How is he being a prick?
Always more efforts in Argentina than with us.
Always getting fitter than fit for Argentina than with us.
Criticism of the club's medical department while thanking Argentina's.
Listing our club's social handle in IG as the last after Argentina and Adidas Football when we are the one paying him. Even sporsors are ahead of us. Like who the fuck does that. Honestly is a massive disrespect.

He has an ego like his first name had an o at the end of it.

Best case scenario would be one really great season and then sell for big bucks to a top club if he doesnt want to stay.

I understand him wanting to leave - we are a clownshoe club atm after all - but he IS being an absolute cunt. I have no time or respect for the wanker (whose made more than his fair share of mistakes whilst playing for us), and look forward to the day this asshat leaves.

Get him gone.

Both can be true.

Romero is being a knob, but I don't want players who want to play for a club like ours (in our current state) which won't win anything. I don't want players who are satisfied with that, and I don't want players who would be satisfied to play for an incompetent buffoon like our manager.

Playing for the bank balance isn't acceptable. We'll become a home for players who aren't good enough for this level, who only see us as a stepping stone to a truly big club, or those who are on a tour towards retirement and no one else.

This is our reality of Tottenham, we're not going to be able to attract top players and if we do we're not going to be able to keep them because they'll realise that we're not a serious club, then we're left with players who are happy to plateau and not push themselves and are happy to play for the club and turn up now and then because there's 0 desire for the club to push on - that culture eventually rubs off on the players.

I'm not excusing Romero for his displays this season in and shape or form but he's made constant fuck ups and never been held accountable for them, he has no-one pushing him for his place and the club indulge him allowing him to take the piss by putting more stock in his national team, the guy is a vice captain and still one of the first names on the team sheet despite being directly culpable for the early goals we conceded this season and his lack of discipline in previous season and now being injured for 5 months walks straight back in the team, that shit doesn't happen at a serious club, he knows that hence why he's been taking the piss.

Don’t blame him really. It’s the same old story. Good players want to compete at the top level. Our owners don’t. Wouldn’t surprise me to now see VDV start to make noises aswell . Although with his injury’s he still has a lot to prove.

On the one hand the fact our best and most “successful” player in terms of trophies wants to leave is an inditement of Levy’s disastrous leadership. On the other, the idea of him has been far better than the reality over the last couple of years.

I've no problem with him moving on but we do need someone suitable who knows how to pass a ball to the attackers to replace him. Danso's started ok but Dragusin is a Sean Dyche 2018 Burnley sort of defender; not really suited to what we're after. Plus his agent is fucking ridiculous. Someone stick an ammonite fossil in a slingshot and take his vocal cords out.
