Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He needs to think that through. Right now they have at least two players ahead of him in his position. He’s a good prospect but he’s not getting a start there most weeks. He needs to go where he’ll play most weeks. I’m not saying that’s us (though I’d pick him over Johnson/Kulusevski) but not PSG or similar. It could stall him.
Apparently United and City both after him.

''Manchester United have entered the race to sign Maghnes Akliouche, joining rivals Manchester City in pursuing the Monaco talent, according to L’Équipe.

A summer departure looks likely, with Monaco setting a price tag between €70 million and €80 million. Interest remains strong despite the hefty fee, with Manchester City, PSG, and now United all in the mix.''

Ah that will be why.

French Creole speaker not necessarily French native speaker but would sound like one to me

His parents moved to Ottawa when he was aged 6 where he attended a French speaking school before moving to Belgium aged 18 and 2 years later moved to Lille in France where he's played for 5 years.

So he's been in a French speaking environment pretty much all of his life, and in last 5 years in France where his speech is bound to have lost pretty much any foreign accent (Walloon in Belgium) and become even more French.

Interesting story and person

I’d disagree. The players who’ve managed to get out have had to literally go on strike to force a move. Berbatov, Modric, Bale. Levy is notoriously bad (or good) at selling players, and often keeps them too long to spite them rather than lose a negotiation. Reguilon, Gil, Ndombele … our recent history is littered with player who we paid wages to when they weren’t part of our future and eventually leave for nothing or next to nothing. If Romero has a good CL and then a good WC we’ll easily get our money back or make a profit. Unless he then stays another year to leave on a free, which would be a win/win situation IMO. As I said, if he agitates for a move cash in now, but only if we get the right deal.

Romero is a bit rash and hot-headed, never learning from his regular mistakes. If his heart isn't in the club or his head has been turned, he needs to go for maximum profit, not on a free, later, when he already doesn't care.

The issues for me is not about who we sell, as I don't ever want players who want to leave, but our buying policy has been terrible for years. We could create a whole thread about all the players we paid loads for, who were useless for us (I say, 'for us', as we seem to get the worst out of most players compared to other clubs).
