Management So, what now?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

After 17 painful years, selling our best player we’ve had for generations, the mighty Spurs finally win something. Not just “something” but a major European trophy (not the toothless cup).

My daughter last week was cursing me for bringing her into a Spurs supporting family and has now seen our club actually lift a trophy.

Do we keep Ange and see what he can do in a third season? Can we ride this wave of fan positivity, come together and push our club even further?

Strangely enough next season starts on Sunday. It's a big game for Ange.
Win and it might feel like a new dawn
Lose again- and the vibe shifts a bit.
Draw is neutral

It could be a factor to if he stays or goes

Been saying it for months - Ange still can't stay.

We've won a trophy, the trophy I've been begging us to win for a decade, and Im over the moon. All the negativity has been cleansed from my blood.

But the fact still remains that its our worst league season in half a century. The manager who presided over that simply can't get another go.

We've been a train wreck since November 2023. He put a hell of a bow on his time at Spurs, and if he exits graciously I'll remember him as he was in Bilbao and do my best to not think about anything else.

Said this in the Ange thread, but I think he will be back and if the league is going poorly then he will get the sack before Christmas. Yesterday in the postgame presser, he said he decided to go all out an win a trophy because he thought it would change the mentality of the club. So if he put the league on the back burner, then so be it, but he has to change that next year.

- club and Ange mutually agree to leave it there. Ange leaves on a high.

- Son is clearly in the Vertoghen legs gone phase. We should listen to offers in leagues where he can extend his career. If he stays he needs to be made aware he won’t be automatic first choice anymore.

- clubs needs to do something it never does and take an opportunity. Buy a DM, AM, LB above all a top elite wide forward like Mbuemo or Bowen. We need a proper squad need season.

- See if we can get Poch and his band of coaches back, if not then need a smart manager alternative like Thomas Frank, not my ideal style wise but competent. Need someone who is upto a job of our clubs size and difficulties.

He'll get a standing ovation and a personal chant against Brighton.

Levy and co will have no choice but to keep him around. Optics of sacking him would be terrible, as evidenced by the fact that even in this forum majority seems to want him to stay.

He'll hang around for a few months without overseeing some significant improvement in results and gameplay. CL football in particular will take a toll on the squad that will continue to be badly mismanaged by him. 1/4 - 1/3 of the squad will continue to be out at any given point.

He'll eventually get the boot after a particularly damning incident, such as a humiliating CL defeat against a vastly inferior team.

Basically it'll be another Di Matteo or Ten Hag situation.

Hes right. The club needs to change its mentality and start winning. Too often we prioritise the league over trophies. Well all the time actually.

Just goes to show. If you try, it is possible. But every fan already knew that. Its the board that doesnt subscribe.

Still think the league form just cannot be maintained or justified, personally.

That said I just don't think Levy will pull that trigger and, if Ange decides he's not done then were stuck with him. In that case I just hope he enjoyed his taste of success with MurderBall and has realised it's acceptable to use it when needed. It would be late on in his career to learn something new, but you never know.

I'm not at all convinced that is a step forwards. I don't think we would have won the final last night with Poch. He had arguably our greatest PL side, and over a few seasons, and still didn't get us over the line. I can see a huge difference in the mentality of Ange being a factor, as he's been stubbornly convinced we would win a trophy this season, whereas I remember Poch being more pessimistic and, more comparable to Amorim (preparing for defeat in his words)>

I think Ange is right in that winning a major trophy is far more of an important step forwards than finishing 3rd and not winning one.

As much as this season has been awful in the league, there's at least some mitigating circumstances and some progress in signs that Postecoglu is willing to sacrifice style to get the job done. So, despite the inevitability of a 17th place finish, could we sack a man who now is in our hall-of-fame and not look like a laughing stock?

If he'd just be pragmatic at times when its not working... that seems so simple to me.

People point towards our losses being by 1 goal margins but don't mention it in this context.

Yes it was eye-rot with Jose and Conte going full on defensive when we went 1-0 up, but at least a little bit of that from Ange would have made such a difference to our league position. Way too much naivety.

Don't get me wrong, we held on by the skin of our teeth last night, but that's going to be forgotten in time. I think with confidence and some more consistent players we could have some pragmatism and keep a clean sheet, rather than going full-on Ardiles and trying to outscore teams who are strong defensively and counter attack
