I can't escape the feeling that if we do let Tel go, we'll regret it in the long run.

I don't have anything to back that feeling up, other than thinking that there is a serious talent there that will explode when everything clicks.
I've personally seen nothing that gives me any confidence that this guy has "it"

Always a risk with a young player but we aren't in the position where we can just gamble with 40m on someone with so many question marks against them

I don't disagree. Like I said, it's just a feeling I have which I can't really back up with any solid evidence.

I felt the same with Bale when the majority of the fanbase were either calling for him to be sold or loaned. At the time he was seen as a jinx because we didn't win a single game that he played in. Was it something like 28 games or so?

Don't get me wrong, there's a huge difference between the sums paid for him and what they're asking for Tel, so I understand where you're coming from, but as I posted, it's just a feeling I have that we could end up regretting not taking the option on him, if we actually don't.

Time will tell I guess.

I would like to see an experienced striker come in, someone who won’t ask a huge fee or salary and who is willing to sit on the bench in case Solanke gets injured. Think a new version of Llorente

I never got the Bissouma hype and I don't get the Eze hype, either. 8 EPL and 6 Cup goals.
11 and 10 total previous 2 seasons.
Johnson has 4 more than him in a side with a lack of creative players available for large chunks of the season.

If Ange stays I'm almost certain he won't get much of a chance. The way Ange has stated we made mistakes the last window, how we have to add experience, how he was extremley snappy with a reporter a few weeks ago asking about Gray not being given a chance in midfield stating "we need to win games".

I think we will indeed target experience and he will be further down the pecking order. Getting him a good premiership loan and allowing him to show his ability whilst bringing in an experienced Palinha in addition to another central midfielder would be the best bet imo. Palinha is nearly 30, he won't be around long enough to block Grays development (that only happens if Gray stays imo).

Sell Bentancur and loan out Gray whilst bringing in 2 central midfielders is what we should be doing imo. We have CL so we need to take advantage of this unexpected opportunity.

Palinha
new
Sarr
Bissouma
Bergvall
Maddison
Kulu
Curious why you would sell Bentancur and not Bissouma? One has been a consistent performer for us all season while the other has been the opposite although he came good when it mattered.

People have insulted old 'Arry's intelligence in the past but it was one of the smartest things he ever did as a manager bringing Bale on at 4-0 up to break that hoodoo.
It's fucking insane to think about little things like that, coupled with not loaning him back to Southampton, that completely shape the course of football history. It goes another way and you don't get the Inter games, you don't get that final season where he fucking battered the whole league by himself, no bicycle kick goal vs Liverpool in the CL final, mental really.

Why are you comparing Johnson to Eze? and comparing goal scoring stats at that? it doesn't make sense.

Johnson is a shoot/score first wide player whilst Eze is a creative wide player. If you want to compare Johnson then it makes sense to compare him to somebody like Mbuemo who is a similar type of player in regards to trying to score first and foremost.

Eze has 8 league assists in 33 games...he has 11 assists overall. His goalscoring return for being a creative wide player is actually pretty damn good as well tbh.

Indeed, real sliding doors moments.

Football is littered with them, Chelsea with DeBruyne and Salah, City with Palmer, the list can go on and on.

I just can't escape the feeling that Tel is one of those players that, in time, we'll either look back on with regret if we don't take that gamble, whilst acknowledging that we could also look back on it with regret if we do.

I think we also have to acknowledge that our season hasn't exactly been a great stage for him to showcase anything as yet, but I also understand the concerns, particularly where the sums involved are concerned.

It's a difficult one for sure but, were it me making the decision, I'd take the gamble. He obviously appears to love being at the club. Him going to our angry fans when they were barracking the team, and the rest of the team were disappearing down the tunnel, showed me a character in the boy. Align that with the talent he obviously has shown previously, and I think this is what has me feeling the way I do about him. That's why I think he is a gamble worth taking.

This sounds a bit like "coping" to me. Eze walks into the spurs starting 11. He's technically superior to almost all of our attacking midfield and attackers.

Bentancur has been consistent?? he has been horrendous for the most part imo.
Wow. Bentancur has been our most durable player this season alongside Porro and has changed from his natural 8 position into a 6 since we've nobody else in the squad who can play that role because Bissouma was mostly out of sorts.

He was a warrior this season. Our league performances were crap and Bentancur was left completely exposed as a lone 6 in most our games where we had no structure when overturned.

I hate this take. Its so ungrateful. Its spineless. Bissouma was missing for majority of the season and just played 3 decent games at the end (he didn't outshine Bentancur who was equally as good in them 3 games), and all of a sudden you rate Bissouma over Bentancur again. Its rotten.

Sounds good. Would love this. But who’s getting him the ball? Solanke has been starved of service all season.

Our wide attackers still need a major upgrade imo.

A lot of what we need rests on whether Ange stays or goes (hopefully).

We’ve several wide forwards but no actual wingers required for Ange’s system. The wide forwards all suffer and look poor to average most of the time. If Ange stays then we need an overhaul of the attack.

Should Ange leave and the new coach utilises the full backs to provide the width, then our wide forwards should improve as they’ll be able to play their natural games. We’ll still obviously need another quality addition and hopefully a Richarlison replacement or Solanke competition.

Gray will be a good player, but it begs the question whether Spurs are buying players to win now or as investments to sell on later.
We haven’t been a selling club in some time.

We would have cashed out on Kane years before he eventually went if that was the case and any big transfer like Harry, Bale, Modrić etc. has been done reluctantly and we’ve screwed them for as much money as possible.

I’d say it’s more likely we’re buying young potential with the hope they turn into elite players for our first team without having to shell out big money, rather than looking to sell them on at a profit once they’ve developed.

My 2 cents... both are decent. Bentancur more consistent of the two and Bissouma more likely to be the one who could take over a game although we haven't seen this since last season. But decent, is about their ceiling. If we want to kick on, you need consistent match winners... I would keep both but would love to get Palacios from Leverkusen. He could play the 6 or the 8 although I am somewhat reluctant to pay big money for more Argies. Dreaming a bit, can you imagine a spine of Emil Martinez in goal, Romero at CB, Palacios in the midfield and Inter's Lautaro Martinez up top... that would be crazy!!!

I think Odebert is the exception - he's just been injured.

Son is now too slow for it IMO.
Richy has looked good but isn't a tricky/pacy player and gets injured too often.
Kulu is too slow for it and better in the middle
Johnson scores etc but doesn't really take on his man or do any of the stuff we'd need. Like he's got all his stat points on half the attributes and none on the other half
Tel looks good at times but doesn't seem to impact the game
Werner is just toast now but if you combined his playing ability and style with Johnson's finishing and positioning it'd be perfect.

I feel like Solomon could be that guy but he's obviously not wanted at the club
Not seen enough of Min Hyeuk to know if he's any different to the above
