They will sell and buy players to the same club at inflated fees. They will sell youth with a buyback included too.
I would rather see us buy 1 or 2 quality players this summer rather than trying to rebuild it all at once.

£100 million for Wharton would be ridiculous.
We could get Ederson and Lookman from Atlanta for a bit more.
We'd get nothing for Tel as we haven't decided if we'll buy him or not and Odobert is going nowhere. We bought him as a young prospect and he's still that. Same with Gray! We'll also get nothing for Werner and Reggy - both just out of contract so go for free.
Yang and Phillips will go out on loan again. Davies will go for free or else we'll keep him. Definitely won't get a fee anyway.
So probably looking at getting a small fee for Gill and Veliz (under 10m each). Lets say 15m for both and that is being generous! We should get 15m off leeds for Soloman. Then that leaves Biss and Richarlison who we'll be lucky yo get 50% of what we paid for back on them. I'd say we'll do well to get 20m for Rich and 15m for Biss.
So even if we did manage to get rid of most of those players (Again Odobert and Gray are not going anywhere and nor should they), we would be looking at around 60-70m max!
I'm not sure if we are entitled for anything with Son either. Don't know what terms were added to his one year extension. Imagine he can leave for free if we choose to let him go!

I think Archie has a really good attitude and has done well for an 18 year old being moved around positions on his first season in the prem. I'd be very disappointed if we were going to give up on him already.
If we thought we could make a fast profit on Odobert then I wouldn't be totally against selling him. Just again, we haven't much evidence to go off.
If as reported we are getting rid of players to get money before we are buying any, then we won't be buying very much imo.

Marcus Edward’s sale to Burnley…do we get anything in our sell on clause? If it was on a free, does the sell on clause transfer? I think not.
Think we got £3.5m. We also have the £17m from Hojbjerg becoming permanent. But then £20m for Danso becoming permanent to us so back to where we started.
He pushed through Solanke and johnson didn’t he. Seems he gets one he wants a summer with the rest club signings. Probably wise.
Danso is a a big improvement on PEH and younger so that’s a decent trade off. A virtually no sum game.

Ferguson will be interesting to watch going forward. But, to your point, it is instructive to think that he was considered a $100M (transfer fee) player at one point. Goes to show how hard evaluating young talent can be.Four words…..
