Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's high maintenance but he is a hell of a manager.
And really, he's not that high maintenance.

He just doesn't want to be fucked around, lied to and taken for a mug.

He's up front with all his requirements and isn't tricky about it.

If you employ him and agree to it all and then you renege on the deal, then he has the absolute right to kick off.

We're talking about a man who said that Roman fucking Abramovich didn't match his ambition.

Should just sign 1 year highly paid contracts for teams not in Europe, incredible 1 game a week coach but it gets tekky when he has to play in Europe.

We just got unlucky with him he had annis horribilis three close bereavements and illness. Had to happen at Spurs. There's a word for that but apparently it was removed from the dictionary end of last week.

He'd just won the league.

He had every right to make the most of it and squeeze it to chae the team he perceived to be above him.

Not like RA didn't have the dosh.

He had to go at the end for us. Football was pretty bad towards the end and results headed the same way. And obviously, he went crazy at Levy lol.

I think we were very unlucky though, in that tragedy off the field, physical illness and subsequent home-sickness just derailed everything. Because there were some great performances in his initial season to nick 4th from Woolwich. When he is backed, he's a great manager (until he loses his rag with the board).

If we had a different owner, I wouldn't mind him back. But with Levy, well we already tried that.

And he was right, wasn't he? City went on to dominate the league while Chelsea haven't won it since.
My point is he complains about spending in every club he's in. They were awful in his last season and Chelsea fans were glad that he was gone. And it's nothing to do with his coaching ability. He basically gave up because he didn't get exactly what he wanted.

I think at some point it's fair to say that it might be him, not every single other club he's been at.

He said Juventus didn't spend enough money as an excuse for his failures in Europe. Then Allegri comes in and makes it to a CL final in his first season and gets to another final a couple seasons later.

Apparently Inter weren't matching his ambition either. They've won another Scudetto and have also made it to two CL finals just like Juve did after he left.

Chelsea also won a CL a few years after he left.

We were lucky to have him: arrived in November and turned things around enough for us to get Champions League and helped get Sonny the Golden Boot .

It was always going to end in tears, but things in his personal life didn’t help ( to put it mildly) .

Spoke the truth ( as he tends to do) and then left by mutual agreement.

Leaving us in a better place .

Can’t see why so many people have a problem with him .

We failed to kick on from the end of his first season.

I thought he might've been past it as a coach and got found out but clearly that isn't the case. Not only did he win Serie A after losing key players he didn't even set up Napoli the same way as his previous teams, so he had the ability to adapt while he was with us and didn't do it.

I think he just didn't care. You mention his personal life but he did the same shit with Chelsea in their second season.

We are a very different set-up to Chavski re promises of funding etc ; but living alone in a hotel in a foreign country , seeing two of your closest friends dying in their 40’s / 50’s and having emergency surgery to remove your gall-bladder all within a few months; would put most of us under a bit of extra strain . Surely.

Totes to you if those sort of things wouldn’t affect your working-life whatsoever .

while he had a rough time of it he should have stepped down if thats the case. The limp way we exited the cups was terrible. Esp Champions league v milan

He's high maintenance but he is a hell of a manager.
The big issue with Conte is that he is seemingly unable to compete seriously in both Europe and domestically at the same time. He's always sacrificed one for the other. And it usually ends up being sacrificing Europe for domestic success.

Combine that with being very high maintenance and it really isn't that weird that he jumps around a lot.

He's obviously a great manager but has there been a time (wherever he has been) where he hasn't had a burst up with anyone?

An absolute head case by some accounts.

Still, when you can point to all the winner medals he's had he'll never be shy of work. Be just like him tho to leave Napoli now.

That said, I feel he wins the Europa Conference League if we weren't unfairly knocked out due to getting COVID. On top of that, he was too good to qualify for the Europa League and still left us top 4 in that Champions League season. He had a rant at his Napoli players to get them over the line this season. We should have kept him after our rant. Maybe he would not have finished 4th and it would have required another miracle, and the football was defensive, but we also would not have finished 8th.

Let's say we kept him when we were deteriorating and 4th in the league, and he failed a bit and we finished maybe 6th in our first Champions League season under Conte. Were our players wages ever better than 6th anyway? Should we even have qualified for the Champions League when he took over?

Players like Richarlison and Romero let him down in the domestic cup competitions and CL respectively anyway. His style wasn't good in the end but his results weren't bad relative to the wage structures and recruitment of clubs around us.

If Ange is still 4th or 5th in March in his first CL season I'm not so sure Levy sacks him.
