I didn't mean necessarily with a car...

I just meant anyone with a reason to want to hurt people in a mass congregation could've done so...

There were no bag searches or security along the High road OTHER than traffic cordons everywhere..
if someone had a mind to cause carnage, they probably could've done, that's all.

But that's the risk with ANY big crowd these days, whatever the occasion!

And there were cars parked on side streets which weren’t blocked off so any nutter could have driven into the crowd in our instance. Not in the busy area though. Difference in ours is that the police and stewards are used to controlling the area before and after matches where lots of people are walking on the high road.

Glad the police seem to have learnt their lesson from Southport by giving details about the suspect in these types of events.

Quickly nips speculation in the bud and stops dumbasses on social media from spreading misinformation online.

Gender, age, ethnicity and any info about possible motive, if known. This needs to be the procedure moving forwards for trust to be rebuilt.

Which beggars the question; why did they feel the need to parade RIGHT THROUGH the City centre, and not around the Anfield area... I heard the route went near but not past Anfield at all, so of COURSE it's gonna cause more disruption!

It would be like us driving through Trafalgar Square and wondering why some people were put out!

Yes, I get the Tottenham is an area IN London, but Anfield IS just an area in Liverpool...

Then again, they did have upwards of a million fans there....whereas we 'only' had 225k in a smaller area to contain!!
So maybe space WAS at a premium!

It's hard to judge without the full facts. Not excusing the incident but if you are going through an area not cordoned off properly and an angry crowd starts attacking your car, throwing things, smashing your window, opening your door, the options for you in that scenario are not good. Even if you try to drive off to avoid the crowd you will hit it by accident. If you have ever tried precision reversing in a heightened state of panic in a confined space it still does not end well.

It reminded me of an incident when two off duty British corporals accidentally drove the wrong way into a cordoned off IRA funeral. From what I gather it was an honest mistake not realising it was the wrong road, and they stopped and fired at people attacking their car and did not make it out alive because they were already seen as a threat.

My understanding was they were there to do a bit of undercover observation. The rest is true - and thankfully omits the details.

Fight or flight instinct kicks in - neither of which is going to end well in this scenario

I thought this, any brown person who made this mistake would have died and ignorant people would still be claiming he was a terrorist.

I'm not sure they would have died unless an armed officer mistook them for a terrorist. If you look at that incident the police were fighting away mobs to arrest this guy properly. 90% of the time I hate the police but they handled this suspect well because no doubt the mob were still trying to kill him even if he was white. It's arguable even this white suspect would have died without the police arresting him.

They should be arresting some of that mob as well. Clearly a few idiots in there and they all look white to me.

I was thinking that if the videos are genuine, as I've seen, the idiot trying to smash in the back window and punching/kicking the car should be held accountable too. You can't justify the reaction and what occurred with the vehicle, but I don't think you can also justify what looked like an excuse to smash something up. We expect humans to behave better, but if that was a spanish bull and not a car (like loads of clips on the internet) then it would be an expected outcome.

As ever, as well, totally innocent people were undeservingly hurt

Some complete idiot ignored road closures and several voluteer marshall requests at a local 5K race recently. Literally drove into the finishing funnel as a race was on. Didn't make the news because noone was hit or hurt thankfully. That was a calm Sunday morning, but in a scenario like the parade, with your car being violently smashed to bits, possibility of a drunk driver (?), I can see how things play out very differently.

Thoughts with all of those innocently impacted here.

We will see when the culprit is a black immigrant. The test is not a white Brit

Police suggesting the car tailgated an ambulance (attending a separate emergency) to get on to the road.
Also I think that the driver is arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and drug driving.
