Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yeah. To follow on from what I’ve said about Frank, I would have only taken him if we didn’t win the Europa or get Champions League next year.

But because we are in the Champions League, we either keep Ange for the short term, or bring someone in who’s a step above. Problem for me, is that I don’t know who that is

The reality is that there is no-one.

Xabi Alonso - Gone to Real
Simone Inzaghi - Going to Saudi

Xavi is free but I think he has flaws.

Having to replace him 10 games into the season seems far more risky to me than replacing him in the summer, giving the new manager the pre-season and new recruits.

We have a sample size of two seasons of the game plan and tactics and post first 10 games they haven’t really worked in the prem.

Giving him 10 games is born out of sentiment rather than objectivity.
Certainly sentiment. My 49% in is based mainly on feels and vibes because he won a cup.

Thomas Frank is odds on favourite to replace Ange, now I know that doesn't mean much but if we Sack Ange now and bring in Thomas Frank I will be underwhelmed, if he is the level of candidate we are looking at then I would much rather just give Ange the first 8 games to see what he can do.
I really like Frank and he was actually my first choice at one point but this was prior to us winning the cup and being in the champions league.

We can't go back now on another rebuild where the manager hasn't won anything to motivate the squad that is now backing the current manager. If we replace Ange it absolutely has to be with a manager that has a history of winning (Xavi, Glasner, Emery).

-Thomas Frank has never managed a team whilst in Europe
-He's never managed a team in the Champions League
-He's never managed a team with high expectation from the board and the fans such as Tottenham
-He's never managed at a club which chops and changes strategy and direction like the wind and does not properly back their managers.
Neither had Poch!

I've just had a look in more detail at our season stats.

Not only did we concede a ton of goals, but according to XG metrics over the season, we should actually have conceded more (68). That is also more goals than the teams who finished 16th and 17th last season too.

:ange-confused:

I still have a great difficulty, seeing people talk about Poch as getting a squad playinf above their ability. Look I liked the guy but it’s criminal he never won a cup. He had probably the best first team we have had in decades and always choked.
But you see those players as always having been that good.
We got Dele from the championship as a teenager. Compare him to Gray or Bergvall and what he did is insane.
Kane came from the academy.
Alderiereld wasn't wanted by Atletico and had been playing for Southampton.
Fans hated Rose and Walker.
Demebele hadn't done much before Poch arrived.
Eriksen was on and off.
So on and so forth.
Yes we should have won something, but I'd say it was unfortunate rather than negligent.

If we cant get a big name then i'm not sure i see the risk of a Frank or Iraola. I'd say both have done better than someone like Eddie Howe pre Newcastle or as good as Poch did at Southampon.

Worst comes to the worst if they bomb then summer 2026 we have Poch, Nagelsmann post world cup and maybe Inzaghi is sick of Saudi by then. If we dont do it now i just feel we'll be chasing a Frank, Iraola or Silva come October anyway. Paratici wont give Postecoglou the slack that Munn gave him.

Before people get too excited about Glasner, his win % with Frankfurt was under 40% and Palace had a diabolical start to this season. I'd probably take him at this point, but not sure he's the guy. Palace also have a very different play style and personnel.

If only that were true!

We made lots of bang average teams look like Real Madrid All Star XIs at times last season.

It is true.
Whilst teams like Newcastle, Woolwich, Leicester, Ipswich, Palace etc all just sat deep, let us pass around outside the box and then take the 1 or 2 decent chances we gave up, the loudest Angebois in here claimed we played well and should have won those games.
No, we shouldn't.
If any of them are saying Man United, with their 73% possession and 16 shots to 3 didn't deserve a result, then neither did we in those games.

Do you expect Frank to be the next Poch then which allows us to challenge for the league and take us to the CL final?

If you want the actual manager and not some cheap imitation he'll be free in a years time...
Who can tell, we didn’t know with any certainty Poch was going to do what he did.

What I’m pretty sure of is that Frank is a more competent manager than Ange.

If we took away the Europa League, our season would be absolutely embarrassing from every conceivable angle.
It's utterly shameful to finish 1 place above relegation when you're considered one of the biggest 6 clubs in the biggest league in Europe.
The stats the Angebois cling on to is goals scored. Because they're actually too simple to see they all game in spats in a limited selection of games.
Where were those goals in all the games we lost?

In the 22 games we lost, we scored 20 goals. Many of which were consolation goals. In many of those 22 games we didn't even score.
