Different tactics (Simeone)
Different landscape (La Liga)

= different demands on a player.

He just had an audition vs Chavski tonight and didn't impress against a team we very much want to be beating more regularly.

No way are we buying lots of world class players - Bissouma is very inconsistent so we need to change him and Cardosa may be an option if we need to put majority of our money towards a couple of forwards not named Tel given Richarlison injury record/goal record and Son declining so he's a one game a week man now (and we need to play two games a season).

Its a compromise

Or we get 15m from A Madrid under the clause if he goes there and add that to the £20m we get for selling Bissouma and we see who is available for £35m

"Richest" is also a very malleable concept.

Ratcliffe claimed United were 9 months from going broke when he arrived.
The broader UK sports media have spent all season saying they are FFP fucked.

Meanwhile; more than 1/3 of the alleged value of our club is our state of the art mega-dome stadium and infrastructure.

Newcastle's owners are "richer" than anyone else in the game; yet don't even make top 20.

cash is required to buy players - so our stadium value is irrelevant.

owners riches is irrelevant to buying players so unless owners put massive money into Newcastle they need to operate within cash generated in the club. So they'll but 2 or 3 decent players in competition with spurs

ManU not in a good place - their squad 2 years behind ours, and Glazers take lots of money out of club. But they will still spend money, just not as much as they'd like or need to as their squad is poor. May need to buy McTominay back from Napoli (player of year there) !

CM is a position where players often struggle to replicate their form when jumping to the EPL.

IMO he still represents a punt and thus 20m + deep scouting ought to get us someone perceived to have a higher ceiling.

.....Is he really gonna tick a box that can't be covered by Benta & Sarr?

Thing with this is that there's little motivation for Betis to drive a hard bargain when the fruit of that will only get passed over to us...... They're no worse off accepting 20m as they are getting 35 and handing the diff. to us. If anything; the lower amount likely assures a quicker deal and probably more agreeable payment terms.

That said; I'd just draw in whatever % we can from him and assess the total kitty alongside other projected player incomes (i.e. sales).

We're averaging 120-150m (net) according to TFMkt and thus far showing 20m (gross) for this summer.

I know these things. It doesn't stop people tossing the proverbial rich lists around to argue that we should spent a couple more hundred mill every season.

This one I like. £30m buy out clause , still very young. Richy has to be sold due to his chronic , never ending injury woes.
Delap and Simons would be two excellent purchases.
I'm really glad to see us linked with Delap- would be an excellent option for us at ST and LW- almost like for like with Richarlison except with much higher upside.

Simons is a pipe dream I think but hey if you guys think it's possible have at it! No doubt he's a quality player we should want to have.

There seems to be a lack of any substantive rumours linking us with players, meanwhile the other clubs are getting things lined up (eg I saw this morning that Newcastle are in for Guehi).

All seems to point to DL not backing Ange. FFS either sack him or back him. Don’t do the middle ground thing of not actually coming out and saying he’ll get a third season or giving him his P45.

It’s going to be another really depressing summer for us in the transfer market, isn’t?

Danso and Vuskovic deals made permanent this summer.

Buy option on Cardoso & Tel.

Solid links to Eze and Guehi; and our scouts have been watching Seymenyo.

Rumours we've been offered Sane.

Other rumours - Bowen, Cherki, McAtee, Angel Gomez

OUTGOINGS
Holjberg (done)
Rumours - Richarlison, Veliz, Moore, Solomon, Gil

It is about how valuable the club is on paper based on assets, match day / TV / commercial revenues, marketing, cash flow, cash reserves, debts etc. Not how much they can spend on a transfer or how rich their owners are.

Good post.

We also have a number of players returning to the club from loans and their futures need to be determined:

Solomon
Devine
Phillips
Yang
Lankshear
Donley
Gil

We also apparently will benefit to the tune of £3.5M from Marcus Edwards move to Burnley being made permanent, in addition to the £17M we will receive for Højbjerg.

I hear you but isn't the Guehi to Newcastle thing also a substantive rumour as well?

My guess is

Solomon - sold
Devine - sold
Phillips - sold
Yang - loan
Lankshear - loan
Donley - first team (Maddison cover)
Gil - sold

Think we will hold on to Devine and Phillips as still only 19 and 20.(Unless a decent bid comes in)
Probably another loan for both and maybe a championship loan for Devine this time?

Devine I think can impress during pre-season. Donley I am torn on. He's done really well at Orient so it would be fun to see him in the first team, but on the other hand he could do with another loan.

Yeah think Donley might need a Championship loan, especially if he ain't going to get enough minutes at Tottenham.
Plus I don't think we have the right manager to improve the younger players.
