1. They are offering him contract terms. He just doesn’t like them. Maybe he wants to move on, maybe he’d only accept a pay rise from them but we could offer a sign on bonus to make up for wage short fall?

When we signed Porro he was one of the best attacking right wing backs in Europe, likewise Romero was one of the best centre backs yet we signed them. How about Lloris - another who was one of the best around but he signed for us.
Sane is a very good player, scoring 11 league goals last season… only 1 less than the £150m rated Musiala.

1. They are trying to get him to sign a new contract.
2. They have let their side grow old together so are trying to bring the age of the squad down so resigning a 29 yr old not really on their agenda. Very different for us.
I get the concerns upto a point but if we plough what we save on transfer fees for Sane to get Eze as well then all of a sudden our attack is a very different proposition.

Bring Eze, Sane, Tel.
Then decide what we are doing with Richy and replace him if he goes.
Completely changes our attacking unit into a CL and PL level attack.
CF: Solanke, Richy (or new), Tel
LW: Eze, Odobert, Tel, Moore
RW, Sane, Kulusevski, Odobert, Moore
AM: Maddison, Eze, Kulusevski
And we still have budget for a CM and Hincapie to cover LCB and LB
It’s not so much their side is ageing - it’s that they have squad players like Sane, Gnabry, Coman on huge wages, and then they have the younger starters like Musiala, Olise, etc who they are gonna have to hand even bigger deals soon. They are worried their wage bill is getting out of hand.
We were certainly in discussion with Wharton him when at Blackburn, but he decided to go to Palace, possibly because of assured playing time.
And from his POV not a bad decision, although its pure speculation as to how much game time he's have got at Spurs in competition with the likes of Bentancur and Bissouma one of whom he might have supplanted.
Wharton went to Palace in the Feb for £18M and we spent £40M on Gray a few months later. Wharton is 3 years older. Only time will tell who will be better.
Think set option was around 50m but spurs have already made it clear they aren't going to exercise it. Bayern will accept 45m. Spurs trying to get him for closer to 35m.
The Sane stuff is just Spurs letting Bayern know they have other options and will pull out if Bayern don't lower the price.
Let's not play the fool. City had Sane before and are selling Grealish this summer. A Sane return on a free would make sense and they could offer him the same wages grealish was on.
City are not interested. They've moved on. They want bigger and better. We should be the same. We should be all in for Eze or Mbeumo!
