We can’t compete with United when it comes to wages so there is no point even trying. They will be offering double or even triple what Levy would offer.
Yep, this is the bottom line.

Recent higher-cost transfers (in GBP):

Solanke - 65m (90k p/w)
Richy - ~50m (90k p/w)
Johnson - 47.5m (63k p/w)

We routinely overpay in transfer fees and completely undercook the wages. You will never attract elite (or even very good) players with that 'strategy'.

Do we need another young forward prospect, even for 25-30m? Not for me - we've plenty as it is. Put the money on the table for the gamechangers.

The price tag is irrelevant for me, every single club knows an interest in their players from the PL inflate the transfer fee more than a club from an another league, minus the richest, top 2/3 clubs.
So the risk remain the same for a young player, if he fits with the manager's playing style, can play multiple positions and likes the environnement.
He showed this season that he contritubes to the depth of the squad, can adapt to the style of the team and began to be more emotionally involved with the fans and the club than any player since the Pochettino era.

I don't see that we've overpaid in fees or underpaid in wages. I'd say we get it about right.

No point doing a Man Utd and paying average players £300k for no reason. I'm pretty sure people seemed to be moaning about us being stuck with Ndombele and so on because no one would pay the same wages we had them on. Even read that being the case for Danny Rose, who seemed to think he was worth more in the Sun interviews.

The amount of problems other clubs have shouldn't be our goals.

Did people really expect a 20 year old who was out of form at Bayern to come to Spurs mid season and blow everyone away? I thought he showed enough progress during his time here that he's worth keeping around. I bet if he took his chance vs. Brighton more people would feel the same.

The harsh truth is we don't get many chances to sign players with his upside. We don't play in that arena. I know we can but we simply don't. Until proven otherwise we need to take chances on high upside players. He could be a an excellent addition to a young core.

Son isn't going anywhere and odebert has played both right and left but is most effective down the LHS.. and Moore is developing and can play both right and left.. so think Tel is one to many.. he's progressed since he joined but think IF he stays it will be at the cost of one of the above... That's footie I suppose but does he justify it.. frankly I've not been convinced.. but hey as per always look forward to be proved wrong and he turns into a worldy. Who knows stranger things have happened, bale hardly set the world alight for his firstish couple of seasons. So we live in eternal hope.

I think Tel and Odobert combined would make one hell of a player...

But I honestly think one of them will go.. probably Tel, as that makes most sense.

If we could put whatever transfer fee he WOULD'VE cost towards trying to get Eze, I'd be most satisfied!!

What are these rumors going around saying we are signing Tel for 35 million? I don't think we need him. We need established players. Not another young player that may or may not have potential to be a decent player in the PL.

are we going to improve the squad that came 17th by buying a player that couldn’t regularly start for us in the worst premier league season we’ve ever had ? We need a ready made player on the left , we already have odobert and Moore with potential , get an Eze type in , someone that can hit the ground running . Pay £50m for someone that’s going to improve the first team instantly not for a kid that may or may not make it .

I'd agree with that. Imagine a trio of Kulusevski, Maddison and Eze as a 3 behind Solanke at home against a team playing a low block. All 3 having the freedom to switch places and play on either wing or as a 10.

It's because our league form has been so bad compared to the other trophy winners. Crystal Palace are the next lowest trophy winner in the PL and they're 15 points ahead of us and mid table.

I think THIS is our USP to getting Eze!

He's swapping mid-table/Europa League for gravity defying 17th & CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!

It's a no brainer for me!

...and yes, I love the idea of that attw king front 3 supporting Solanke OR.... dare I say, someone even better???

Ben Jacobs saying it's practically an obligation now, as clause measures have largely been met (last word on spurs podcast)..

Bonkers stuff.

Better get a proper manager in to get the best out of him.

Seriously, how do you get yourself in a position where you are obliged to buy this guy for proper whack, after he's offered no real quality whatsoever?

Absolute fucking joke.

We've either got money to burn on nonsense or not.

Make your mind up, Baldcunt.

Solanke is not worth 65m but I guess no top striker is going to come for £90pw
