Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Weren't people furious when they thought he'd turned us down for United back in Jan?
Don't recall.

I think a trial by loan was an ok move with this guy.

To fashion conditions that have been so easily met without producing any proper quality is where the issue is.

We should not be going forward with a purchase.

And certainly not have put ourselves in a position to be obliged to do so, having near zero in return for the duty.

It was a very very smart and valuable move, in fact.

We got a promising player in a position of need for the remainder of the season with the opportunity to make it permanent for a pre-set price if he really made the grade and looked like a star in English football, but owed nothing further if he didn't.

And he just didn't.
We got a player for much more money that he's worth, who's done nothing in his time here.

When there are others out there for similar scratch who are actually effective.

Our fanbase has gone fucking insane.

As a person who generally consumes a lot of spurs social media, I can say that it was pretty unanimous that Tel supposedly originally rejecting us was the worst thing in the world to happen and we should sign him at any cost.
Just had a quick search on here and there's a few opinions mentioning that

Seems like one of them was in fact you, with the 180 opposite tone to how it is now:
I don't like that it's just a short loan, but it's better than nothing.

Have liked this player for a long time.

Hope we don't turn him off and he decides to push for a full transfer in the summer.

Show him those fucking pillows!

I don't mean that to be some kind of pointy "ha ha" thing, but rather that if there's one thing that's certain in life, it's not death or taxes - it's the spurs fan's 20/20 hindsight

Since that post I've admitted - on several occasions, whilst he was being shit - that I've admired him for a while after seeing his cameos for Bayern off the bench.

That's no secret.

I hoped - and expected - he'd replicate those showings, but it's been abysmal.

And unlike many others, whether I like a manager or a player, or not, if they are not effective and the best thing for my club, they gotta go.

No ego here.

What I hoped for didn't materialise and It turns out a shorted loan was more than enough.

It is what it is.

No secret at all.

I also think with young players if they are going to be elite we see glimpses doue is a big example here

This is the thing.

We haven't even seen real flashes.

It's super disappointing, as I thought he had the chops.

If it does turn out that the obligation is set, then we better get a proper manager in, as more time under The Butcher is not going to get the best out of what he DOES have to offer.

I know, and respect that - it's the same with Ange for me, as I thought there was a chance he'd do what he did at Celtic and bring in some more Mitoma-profile players from Asia and unearth the academy a bit more.

We all have the capacity to get stuff wrong, which is totally human

The only thing I have issue with, on a regular basis, is when the fans are saying "Levy is incompetent if he doesn't sign playerA}and he should offer him £200k", and then if playerA doesn't work out, they say "Levy is incompetent for signing playerA and giving him £200k a week". Whether the juxtaposition be Mane and Ndombele, there's been loads over the years.

I think the club should be credited for making the transfer happen, and not criticised for it in hindsight. I don't want us to sign Tel and wasn't convinced by him in January either, but you have to back your manager even if that manager ultimately lets you down with it.
Good thing is that he seems like a good kid, even if he's no where near worth signing right now.

You shouldn't find yourself in a deal where you're compelled to buy someone who hasn't performed at all.

That's crap business.

hes not a winger thats for sure. can see that straight away, even talented 9 year olds will dribble more elegantly, tel has a clumpiness to him and hes never in real control of it when hes dribbling around danger, the ball doesnt stick to him like it does with proper wingers.

not sure what he is really, maybe some sort of striker but not a good one thats for sure. this will be a really poor waste of good money.

It's also crap business to develop other club's young players for them, at our level, and get no option to sign them at all.

As far as I know, and as far as all information shows both then and now, there is no compulsory purchase and it is an option.

I don't know why we're criticising the club on that basis.

Think that most Spurs fans would agree that £50m is too much, but Yes or No at £30m?

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has a good contact with Spurs and he will lead the talks. he German giants are willing to demand less than the agreed clause of £50m (€60m), and could lower the asking price to £30m (€35m).

If that’s the case, then there isn’t any obligation to buy him at the end of his loan. So we still have a say on the final fee amount.
