To be (slightly) fair to our Antipodean brethren, it means something different down under, doesn't it? Refers to Greeks, Croatians and the like (don't know about Italians and Spanish) I thought as opposed to black people like in the UK, not that that makes it much better.

Could well be wrong though.

Do racists still use it in Britain? It sounds very 1970s.
