I just had the time to look at the details of his sacking.

A few things have surprised me.

1/ I thought he must have failed to take Sunderland up in the play offs.
Even though I was pretty sure they had won. Maybe I dreamt it.
2/ turns out they did win the play offs. I was right.
3/. Also turns out Michael carrick was not the manager of Sunderland anyway!!

You learn something new every day.

Why are we talking about Howe now. We were clearly discussing the merits of Frank and somehow we've transitioned to Howe. Not sure why as there is nothing that links Frank and Howe together other than they are PL managers. But I'll play you game. No I didn't want Howe and I wouldn't take him tomorrow. He is riding a perfect storm at Newcastle but I wager he will struggle to juggle the demands of CL, PL and domestic cup next season just like he did two seasons ago.
I try and argue from a point of evidence.
You not so much

Riding a perfect storm lol!!

For sure but having been in Bilbao and subsequent I think there's a lot more good will towards him than this thread suggests. Particularly amongst younger fans.

And I agree with you. I'm not sure him staying is the right decision for either party - but that European trophy will be forever even if he's gone by October (although I'm still not convinced he's staying)

The good will is incredibly weak given he just won us a trophy. Any other coach would be getting worshipped.

He splits the fanbase badly. A huge portion will not be with him regardless as he’s burned bridges. Many (most of the match goers) will be but due to past history they’ll lose patience rapidly again.

completely different to United - like completely different _

Different club, different energy, different vibes from players towards the manager

unhelpful analogy
Shit manager underperforms club's expectations massively in the league but saves job by the skin of his teeth with a cup win.

Literal carbon copy.
Ange when it comes to trophies

Can someone inform me as to why there's a sudden shift to thinking Ange is staying? Surely it's not just some Ally Gold fluff?
Levy testing the water.

Offered you something you didn't want, (Thomas Frank), to create a feeling that Ange may not be as bad as we all know he has been.

We're back in the territory of Levy attempting to figure out what the cheapest way of getting out of the mess he has created for himself actually is.

Do you reckon they get trophies for not finishing 17th and making up the numbers in the league?

Participation trophy?
Thank you for competing trophy?
The imagine we won trophy?
The almost made it trophy?

Where are we gonna put all of these prestigious trophies in our trophy cabinet now I wonder :gallashmm:

There are two big differences with the Ten Hag thing:

1. Ratcliffe didn't hire ETH and very publicly walked in with a remit for dramatic change, he was never going to retain the incumbent manager (or incumbent anything) for any length of time. Whereas Levy hired Ange and stuck with him through the struggles of this season.
Ratcliffe handed him a new contract, at that point he becomes an advocate of ETH. There was much less pressure on Utd to retain ETH last summer as well, the FA cup they won didn't really sway many of their fans to his side and many of their fans called the situation that ended up transpiring well ahead of time.
2. United very publicly were recruiting other managers and only came crawling back to ETH after they failed. That isn't true at Spurs....yet
Rumoured to be, same as we are rumoured to be talking to Frank right now.

If trophies are all that matters let's by all means keep Ange on. Back to back relegations will see us competing in the EFL trophy, a real winnable cup. Just a few tiers further down we could get our name on the ever-prestigious FA Vase.

Scared of winning the Champions League are we?

Don't worry my guy, we can get through this together 😎

thats 365 odds. paddy power and sky have frank at 8/11...all very weird. its a strange market to mark up tho.

I think it is because it doesnt take much money to move the odds.

Only time I ever found out about a manager getting a new job before it got out there was when Simon Jordan told a few of us outside a pub on Warwick Street that he was appointing Neil Warnock the next day at Palace. Simpler times.
