Several other players I've spotted on their social media giving fulsome praise and thanks to Ange including Vicario and Son (below as an illustration)

Nothing to say the players are unhappy but clearly a new manager will need to win them over with his tactics, training, professionalism and personality etc

Not sure about the better player bit Sonny! But heartfelt nevertheless.

I guess I’ll cross them off my ‘football intelligence’ list, then!

Most players (whether at Spurs or other clubs) are judged almost exclusively on what they achieve on the football field, and equally live in a cocoon from being a teenager onwards immersed in football.

They are generally not going to be used to thinking - obviously there are exceptions of such as Ben Davies - but as a prime example I recall David Beckham, England captain and golden boy of his generation, unable to string a sentence together on anything outside football and clearly managed by his wife who was a pop singer yet with far more brain power than Beckham, great player that he was.

So even on football intelligence, it's going to be a fairly short list at Spurs or any other club, its not what players are brought up with !

The Ange Outers don't see that though.

Could it be that the excitement if achieving things is too much for them? Perhaps they took a shine to Spurs when we were bang average in the pre-Redknapp days. Maybe they yearn for that.

Have one decent player, like a Ginola, and a load of dross elsewhere. Rarely get into Europe. Keep it simple. Nothing too hopeful

Maybe that's what is going on here. Maybe that is the clinical explanation for these Ange Outers who seeming like to harm our own best interests.

I'm trying to understand it, Fatty, I'm trying. I really am
Yeah I get the league losses but all I’m remembering about last season is that night in Bilbao

Consider this:

The decision was made a long time ago. The decision to step away from ambition and opt for 8th place as a target.

Victory. Glory. A European trophy distruoted Levy's announcement plan

That's what we are: a club for which success is an unplanned disruption.

I see what they are, but moaning about it isn’t going to change anything.

Gnashing teeth and having a public protest isn’t going to change anything.

Posting vitriol on a fan forum isn’t going to change anything.

The board and ownership will change when they get an acceptable offer, not before.

If you employ a manager that doesn’t get on with the board that’s only going to end one way, so why are cheerleading for that?!

I’ll be at the next protest I can thanks

I’ll cheerlead for anything that puts pressure on them in the meantime

Someone with experience in the CL and who has won trophies for a start.

I understand he did a good job with Brentford and he seems like a nice enough guy but it’s hugely uninspiring appointment and the players will think the exact same thing.
I just don't understand why that's still an important requirement for people after seeing how it went with Conte and Mourinho.

The players didn't seem to be inspired with them and couldn't wait to get them sacked at the end.

Tbf - has Sonny ever given anything but fulsome praise for anyone? Need to look at Madders, Solanke, Richy - the players that haven’t quite had the favouritism that others have. ‘Damned with faint praise’, I suspect.

Look for the words of the clever players: Kane did a runner, Dier politely talks about tactics, Hjojberg went/ was pushed. Who on the current team would you trust with the intelligence to win a game of noughts-and-crosses, let alone know good from bad? Spence, maybe?; VdV?; Davies?; Mason (done a runner/ pushed)? Berg - possibly? Kulu? It’s slim pickings as we have a team of selfish athletes (as they have to be) and - with the best will in the world they’re not always the sharpest at seeing the big picture as they’ve been closeted their whole life.

History will put him as a fun cross-between Ramos’ awful performances but a cup and Ardiles’ ridiculous strategy.
So which manager you going to slate next then?

The amount of messages I’ve received from people completely dumbfounded that he’s been sacked… I’m convinced most people have absolutely no idea what’s going on. It shouldn’t need to be explained why he was sacked.

Conte got us into the CL and had us sitting 4th when he was sacked.

He may not have won us a trophy but the reason he was sacked was because he called out Levy and the board for what they are.

The players were clearly inspired by Ange and took his speech about winning something in the second season as a platform to push themselves to achieve it, many of them have already said this.

Whilst we were awful in the league, it clearly does have an impact.

If we want to push on and take advantage of our success then we need an experienced manager to take these players to the next level.

I don’t think Frank is that manager, I think Frank is low risk/low reward and that’s exactly what Levy wants.

It's incredible really, the trophy was great but we aren't even going to be in it next season so it's hardly a reason to keep him.

Shall we actually look at the managers who reached the CL places this season?

Slot - came straight from the Dutch league (won PL)
Arteta - Woolwich was his first managerial job
Pep - elite winner at the biggest clubs
Howe - promotions and relegations with Burnley and Bournemouth (won Carabao Cup)
Maresca - came from Leicester in the Championship (won Europa Conference League)

Nothing about Frank’s CV should cause any alarm when you look at those managers. He has consistently over-achieved and shown a lot of guile in the PL. It may not work out but he’s a perfectly sensible choice of manager. If Levy isn’t going to change his attitude to salaries then he’s probably the best fit we can find. He gets more out of less.

You bring up Conte but the players weren't inspired by him at all towards the end and wanted him gone. You bring up league position instead.

Then with Ange you make it about inspiration and not about the league position.
