True, and he was fortunate that we didn't play any really good teams in the EL. We squeaked home against two so-so opponents in EF and Man U.

17th is the lowest league position of any winner over the last 10 years of any English cup, the CL, or the EL. And I think that says more about Ange's stubborness in the league than anything else.
Ange conducted about 2/3 of the season in such a way as to orient the club toward saving his job. He knew his goose was cooked at Christmastime but he was being allowed to stay due to the cups, so he allocated everything toward trying to win something to save himself.

Yes, everyone liked seeing a trophy won. But as soon as Ange was under threat his "full effort to try to win every match" "Shocked at those who don't want to see us win & hand scum a trophy", and all his supposedly unyielding commitment to every match being won and doing it his way with the throttle wide open... unyielding became very yielding. It's who we are mate became "who cares about the league" and parking the bus in the final. (yes it was sensible, but why have we never been sensible in 2 years before that moment?)

We can be glad for the trophy but all those purchasing tickets for league matches in 2025 were mugged off by him, just as much as those fans he cupped his ears toward, weren't they? He wasn't making an effort. The mission this calendar year was to save his job.

This is all true.

That said, the impact of the trophy drought on the club was such that Ange's interests and the club and supporters' interests were aligned in that period.

At the end of the day, this can kind of be a happy ending for everybody. The frustrations of being a Levy operation are what they are, and the solution to that can never be in the dugout, but we're a lot better off for Ange's cynical quest to cling to his job.

I'd expect Gooners or the Chavs to downplay it as just a poor trophy, not a Spurs fan....... any way if you can't enjoy a night like that then i actually feel sorry for ya, I'm still buzzing we won it, couldn't give a fuck if we drew 0-0 in the final and won by a pen shootout, any way lets look forward to Frank

Well... I have to say, I feel un-sorry (i guess that means happy) for you.
Without irony.

I have been Spurs fan since 2009. So it was first time ever I saw us lift a trophy.

And try as I may, I could not dumb it down enough to feel that pure kind of joy I had been waiting this whole long time.
Cause I cannot unsee that the teams we had to overcome were mostly absolute garbage. Most would hardly survive in Championship.
Of course I wanted us to beat ManU in the final! I always want Spurs to beat the team we play against. And I love that it gave us the chance to play in Champions League next year. But it was always on top of my head even when the final whistle went that... what did we win? Whenever someone said "we are champions of Europe" i literally cringed. Because this is lightyears from it. At best we were Championship (meaning Division 1) winners of Europe. Cause all of the biggest teams play on higher level. And it all came as direct result of fully giving up competing on really high level of the game.

But again - happy for you if you can convince yourself that we were the best of the best and Champions of Europe and everything along those lines. I do actually think that such kind of ability to simplify things might mean more overall happyness in life.

Rubbish. Go do a little bit more reading and then consider your opinion.
5th highest scorers in the Premier League for a traditional League 1 club is pretty damn good.
Scoring machines in the Championship too.
Known for tactical flexibility and the remit for Spurs is to play good, attacking football. I think he will supply that, but without the naivety we've seen over the last 2 years.
He's a tactician and from all accounts, a fantastic coach.
Let's wait and see.

Hypothetical Scenario - If we beat teams we should be beating convincingly with attacking play and then beat the other top 6 sides 1-0 with playing astute solid football I think we will all be happy.
you forgot set pieces. We've been shite at those under Ange

100% true.

Some people claim that he was "building something" and suggesting he had a plan. He absolutely did not.
He just made it all up as he went on. Full impro stuff.

As you pointed out, he made VERY BIG fuzz about it when there were questions about matter if we should win the game against City in end of his first season. And when it was comfortable for him, it was of no problem to throw in 10+ games.
But for me, most exposed was all the crap surrounding the famous "cupping the ear" fiasko.

He literally let the fan (justified!) chants get under his skin. He tried to put the fans (who do pay his salary in the end!) into their places. And then after game was spouting absolute shit about this, downplaying it as "wanted reaction from fans" and said that "I know better now, and I should never again celebrate my team scoring" or whatever. This is just shocking way to conduct yourself.

So I am happy to see new guy given a chance. Someone who has actually punched above his weight in the toughest league in the world. And based on what I've seen and read of him, he seems like a proper adult man!

We will win more league games.
We will beat more of the top teams.
We will look more organised, coherent and direct.
We will see more tactical flexibility and adaption that reflects the nature of the squad and the opposition.

The rest is an unknown imo.

I don't care for this appointment at all, but would be remiss to overlook the positives that Frank brings (in the short-term, at least) and wish him the best.

And we will enjoy watching our team play again.

You must be in the minority , not meaning that as offensive at all, but you only had to see the fans at the trophy parade to see what this meant to people, for me it wasn't even about qualifying for the Champions league, it was finally seeing our club captain lift a European Trophy, this was for all the times we have come close but couldn't get over the line, I think as well being as the season was so shit this was literally for the club a lifeline, a chance to save the season, I also don't get all the "Trophy Snobbiness" so to speak, you can only win what competitions you are in and you can only beat the teams you play, Granted its not the Champions league but its still a prestigious cup.

This is what football is all about, I have done a lot of drugs in my life , but when the final whistle went against united that feeling was better then any of them, its sad that other fans didn't experience such Joy as moments like this in football are few and far between for Spurs,
