In all honesty, I think the actual number of £68M is a fair price for Eze, it's just the structure that is an issue, which I think is easily surmountable. The usual way in practice is to offer a higher number than the buy out clause, but paid in instalments, and that frequently works.
So buy out clause £60m , you offer say £65m spread over 3 years (or whatever).
Key thing to note, whatever tactic you use, you end up paying more than buy out clause, and buy out clauses are usually set at the maximum they thought other clubs might pay. So you end up with a high priced player - so its a question of whether the player really is that good/game changing for the buying club. Its usually a massive win for selling club to get top $ for the player
It's debatable whether Eze in actually a "game changer," but I think that's fairly irrelevant personally. Does he improve us overall? I think he does, and any player like that comes at a high price. Would I pay more? Yes, if we're talking in the low £70M, which is effectively where we'd end up whichever route we take.
Essentially I think the deal is a win win for both selling and buying club, and they're always the best deals.
