Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Worth a reminder that Frank will still not have met half the players - those who have been playing internationals in June not due back until end next week start of following week.

Hypothetically lets suggest that Frank has watched lots of videos of Richarlison and also seen his injury/playing history and decided its best if he can be moved on. Richarlison may be of the belief he can stay fit and thinks playing CL is best way for him to stay in Brazil squad. So it might require a face to face meeting with Frank where Richarlison is told he will not be playing much and best to move on ..... which Richarlison may be reluctant to accept.

Players have agency (ie players need to agree transfers out) so provisional work to move him on may have begun, but until player says yes it cannot be concluded.

And we have a full squad (2 players too many to fit in CL already) so transfers out will be a brake on concluding transfers in.

We are still less than half way through transfer window, so chill.

They have cameras in the physio room?

OK, OK, you've bought the club 48 hours.

I’ve said this before on the Levy wanting to win the league thing. He did say it. 100%.

But he didn’t say when. He didn’t say “I want to win the league next season”. Like every Chairman / Owner, of course he’s going to say he wants to win the league, but he’d be mental to put a timescale on it.

Some choose to believe when he said it that he meant the upcoming season. I don’t think that. He was just talking about the future in general terms.

Do you guys really think he’s stupid enough to think we can go from 17th to 1st with this squad and this manager?

Doesn't matter if he said when. he explicitly stated that was the goal so every transfer window should show signs of a club at least building towards winning the league.

In 20 yeas of ENIC and however many since the stadium move, there hasn't been one summer that was what you'd expect from a club trying to win the PL and CL. And, let's face it, this summer is unlikely to look like the type of transfer window you'd expect from a club trying to win those trophies either.

You know once it would be cool if we just slapped our massive 1882 cock on the table and just went 100 million for Wharton, give me.
like arse did for rice.

It's a one off, but it fixes a problem area long term

Levy get criticised for stating that he wants to win the league and the CL, but people were upset with him when he apparently said "winning is hard" which turned out to not be true anyway and when he gave watches to our players before the CL final.

Can we pick a lane please guys? 🙏
Can we have a wanting to win the CL and PL but being serious option, then act accordingly . I think most people would happily sit in that lane

He has talked the talk , let’s see if he walks the walk . Sluggish start I am sure you would agree

You’re correct that we need to be showing ambition in our transfers. But it’s not even July. Our new managers arse has hardly touched his office chair yet.

I’m all for critique of our transfer strategy when it’s been made clear what it was, at the end of the window. However, until then, all we have is supposed rumours. Not one of us has a clue what’s going on at the club.

What players need to change for us to finish higher?

How can I know the exact answer to that question?

I have however stated on multiple occasions that I think we need an additional striker, so that is 3 if we keep Richarlison, or2 more if he is sold. Someone who scores more than Solanke is likely to is important in my view.

I think our midfield lacks both quality and depth, so.....

And I think we need another 1/2 in defence.

Anyone who thinks our current squad can bring us more than top 6 at best is going to be very disappointed.

Didn't say when though did he. :paraticiwink:

There's a general overreaction to such an obvious statement, every fucking owner wants to win the Prem and CL - they just have different priorities...you should know by now that this self sustainable model isn't winning any time soon but he'll have an end goal in mind as to when the time is right to win.

As I said hotels and real estate will take priority for ENIC, what do you think the I in ENIC stands for?

I get it though, we're football fans - we don't want to hear it, we want to win now but that's not happening so I always say, read between the lines and set your expectations accordingly, any grown man still getting duped by these owners and expecting things to happen overnight really ought to be having a word with themselves IMO.

Yup, credit to Levy for hiring Ange and not sacking him before he won it.
Many of your posts I like, but this doesn’t do you justice. If you are saying
- Levy should have sacked Ange before the final who would you have hired to take us to glory?
- Levy should have never hired Ange, are you sure you have been consistent over the last two years?

Owners make mistakes. But the fact we were one of the highest nett spenders under Ange demonstrates he was backed. The fact we won the EL was despite Ange not because of him. Either he or the players decided Angeball doesn’t work in the European theatre and so we played anti-Angeball in the EL from QF onwards whilst still doing Angeball in the league.

Where did that leave us?

Agree 100%.

But Levy absolutely must demonstrate that in actions and that only means one or two things.

That is also incontrovertible.

Levy did bizarrely say that he wanted to win the PL, which I thought was one of the most stupid things he had ever said.

Say you want something more than cup success of course. Say that finishing 17th,regardless of other pressures is not acceptable, but if you say you want to win the PL, then back your words.

If that is your ambition, and unless you genuinely believe the squad is already capable (it clearly is a long way from that), back it up.

So far this window, it's sh!t.
So now you're criticising him for saying he wants to win the league? The guy that gets shit cos everyone thinks he only wants to finish top 4?

This thread man lol

There's a natural tendency to judge the transfer window by one high dollar signing. I'd love to see Mbeumo, Eze, or Semenyo playing for Spurs, but if we get critical needs met with smart scouting and spending we're still coming out to the good even if we aren't as excited initally about the incoming players. We've heard a lot about the money Spurs have spent on scouting and data and now it is time to see that bring results, and not just in under 21 prospects. If we can't get Mbeumo, Eze, or Semenyo at least Spurs should get some 21-24 year old signings in with the potential to develop into those types of players. That needs to be done while getting a #6, a backup for Maddison, and a replacement for Son. Up to this point chasing wish lists hasn't gotten us anywhere but the annual first runner up prize for missing out on the big target.

No, he shouldn't have sacked him before the Final. I think it was cowardly to sack him after but I also see why the decision was divisive for so many.

I think Ange was a successful hire and I credit Levy and tbh Munn for that. He won us our biggest trophy in 41 years and qualified for Europe in 2 of 2 seasons. Obviously one of Levy's most successful hires imo.

But like I said, I think they made the plan to recruit teenagers as depth for a European season together and I also think they were pressuring Ange to stay in 4 comps as long as possible. Then I think they threw him under the bus like cowards when it resulted in poor league form.I also think they were happy to pass the buck onto him for injury issues when they were the ones doing a shit job of recruiting a competent medical department.

We have been one of the top 3 spenders for the last 3 years. That we have spent money on the wrong players you can’t blame Levy / ENIC. That is down to the DOF / manager.

I agree amd no truck with me that we spend money but there is a stronger debate to be had about spending a bit more to increase your success rate. I have also stated we spend money.

We get it wrong, for whatever reason, more routinely than we sign the right players/manager. Why/how?

What I do think makes our current situation less easy to defend, is that we have leverage, we have a new nanager, and it's clear that fans just want some belief. It's absent, at least for now., and what occurs as a result,is the notion of desperation or buying players for the sake of it, as opposed to being part of a defined plan..

Yeah it's only July but we've all seen this movie before. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.

Seriously people. Find a summer hobby.

You have completely missed the context.

I think Levy was fcuking stupid in saying he wants to win the PL, which was part of his reasoning for sacking Postecoglou.

All Levy needed to say was that he felt 17th, regardless of other competitions was not good enough, and that we must aspire for much more. He went public on a PL winning aspiration.

If he says it, and correct, not necessarily or realistically meaning next season,he has to back his words. And backing his words means more spent than ever before or a recruitment strategy that is far far better.

I would respect him if he said the aim is to win the Premier League and the Champions League in the next 3 - 5 years and if he fails he will definitely leave.

If he also apologised for 24 years of bullshit and worked for free; unless Spurs actually won the Premier League and the Champions League, it would be as appropriate as the contracts he awards to some of the players he signs for Spurs and would actually mean something.

As things stand; the consensus appears to read it as more of the same with better spin than Donna provided.

Levy should be performance related going forward.

If he hasn't won the Premier League or the Champions League, by the end of season 4, he goes at that point; unpaid.
