Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Isn't today the day we start doing business or something?

August the 30th I believe.

Kudus would be a fantastic signing IMO, I said earlier in this thread I think his profile fits perfectly for what we need out wide, has absolutely no fear in taking on his man and is a very high level dribbler, was thinking last season would be very interesting to see him surrounded by higher level players, I think he could be one of the best in the league given the right backing.

Does anyone think the stories about Spurs being in for Mitoma have substance? It kind of makes sense. You'd have a replacement for Son and the fee wouldn't be that high. That would leave funds to focus elsewhere. Not to mention that Mitoma is actually a good player.

If prices were similar, would we prefer Kudus or Semenyo? Personally I'd definitely prefer the latter...
All day, he’s just a much better player. Plays with his head up as well and much better at working off the ball. I actually think Kudus id a poor player. It’s telling that West Ham seem so desperate to sell while he seemingly has some hype left they’d even sell to us. That should raise some alarm bells.

For a reason other than he has 3 letters in his name?
Similar style. Direct. I'm not sure if Tel will ever each prime son levels but he is only 19 so has the potential to one day get there. But the current version of Tel is probably already better than the current version of Son who really regressed last season. Now feels like a good time to sell Son.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not sure if Tel is ready to be a regular starter so I'd like us to sign another forward but Tel is ready to replace son in the squad for me.

Is the current version of Tel better than Son at 19?

Its a funny one. Semenyo has a far better attidude and is a safer bet but if you told me one of them would become world class than its Kudus all day. He is the one with the higher ceiling.

If you were offered one last Summer then its Kudus all day but Semenyo had a far better season last year and Kudus does have attitude issues. If you are a dreamer then you want Kudus. If you are a realist then you want Semenyo.

Just because we haven't, doesn't mean that isn't what the idea is.
It doesn't even have to be about selling them, ever. From an accounting point of view, a £20m teenager with 15+ years ahead of them on £10k a week is an asset. A 31 year old with 2 years left and £200k a week is a liability.

Why is a 31-year-old player on £200k being presented like a preferred/optimal signing?

When Redknapp was in charge, apparently (said everyone, for years) all the club wanted was 30+ year old players because they didn't want to pay for younger ones. The rhetoric flops about too much for a club that has had no real deviation in leadership.

We've signed Llorente for strong money, and brought in Perisic. Poch said at the time there was no age issue with signings:

The evidence is quite clear that we aren't a selling club that farms players - bit weird to suggest that when it literally doesn't happen. The club did very well to keep the best players here as long as possible, to the point where we don't actually worry about it these days.

Well that makes sense, as I'd prefer Semenyo and I'm definitely a realist rather than a dreamer. 😂

Doesn’t matter what you are if only one is for sale

Sugar bought the club after the FA Cup win and sold both Gascoigne (signed in '88) and Lineker (signed in '89)
He signed Klinsmann and then sold him for half as much a year later because the team was shit.

Ginola was pushed out by Dalglish, but anyone who recalls us being an attractive proposition in the Pony years must have sustained a brain injury, because that wasn't the case. Sugar did a convincing impression of a gooner trying to troll us for a decade.

Okay sorry some of the players I mentioned had already joined the club before Sugar took over. Now the club's record signing some 35 years on is Dominic Solanke. A player that will likely be forgotten about shortly after he leaves the club.
