1. The Tues/Wed to Sat/Sun schedule is much easier on your squad and players than Thursday to Sunday. This has been proven time and time again.
2. The teams in the new CL format are much more diluted. We will get 1 genuinely elite team in our first 8 games, after that it will be the likes of Frankfurt, Bilbao, Slavi Prague, Marseille, Galatasaray, Union SG, PSV, Olympiacos etc etc

The difference between the League Phase of the CL and the top end of the EL is almost nothing.

Yeah I agree. Newcastle are very short as was exposed in the 23/24 season where they couldn't handle being in Europe at all. This season they were brilliant as only had one game a week and Isak and Bruno G stayed fit all season. But if you actually look at their squad they will be exposed again next season. Callum Wilson is less reliable than Richarlison!
It wouldn't be crazy to think that ourselves and United could easily finish above Newcastle next season.
You look at brentford as 19th for wage bill. Looks a decent sign for us appointing Frank as was on a modest budget at brentford but did decent for them. Hopefully for us as were a much bigger club with a bigger budget he can do well. Me personally i expect top 6 or a trophy. This has driven me insane for years. No it isn't!
There are the same 7 days in a week! Wednesday to Saturday is the same amount of time as Thursday to Sunday! Saturday to the next Tuesday is LESS time than Sunday to the next Thursday!
It's so fucking obvious why the Europa League teams handle that schedule poorly, because Europa League teams lack the quality and depth of Champions League teams on average!
And we saw what happened when we didn't have it.
The focus will be on the league this year, understandably. Bar a level of reinforcements we know aren't coming, look out below in midweek.
I was quite calm about it as they’ve ground me down but this is looking worse than last year with no ins or outs completed so far. At the moment we are trending towards a 2018 window.
Dont think we should panic just yet about transfers. Frank needs to assess players. We need a top striker, two midfielders though.
I think the ideal scenario is you keep making 3/4 changes each game regardless of the competition and that our team always looks strong. I don't think we are there yet. I still think there is some brig drop offs in our squad. For example if you rest Udogie in the league for Ben Davies then that's a considerable drop off. We aren't there yet but ideally You'd like to be able to rest 2/3 different players each game and for the team to still look nearly full strenght.
Pool did it very well last year. Jones took turns replacing MacAllister and Szoboslai. Konate and Quansah rotated alot. One of Robertson or Trent would regularly miss out for Bradley, Gomez or Tsimikas. The front 3 was always changing. Even Kelleher for Alison! Despite the 2/3 changes they were making between games it always felt like they were playing a strong team!.
We need a top striker?? Any ideas who you'd like?
I think we need a versatile winger (kudus, eze, mbeumo), an experienced CDM and another left back! A striker is not on my radar. I'd be happy for us to keep richarlison as back up to solanke.
We really need to start keeping any 19/20 year old's with a bit of talent at the club to play games, there seems to be some sort of infatuation abroad with English players on top of them being very marketable all the time here, we are cheating ourselves of 10s of millions in revenue by not giving these guys playing time here even if only to groom them to sell on. Liverpool getting £35m for Quansah who is in my estimation pretty shite, and Jobe going to Dortmund for £30m, then you look at Troy Parrott, a player who had arguably more hype than either of them coming through the youth teams, had a great year on loan in Holland and we sell him for... £4m... you can literally see guys like Phillips, Dorrington and Lankshear getting farmed out til the last year of their deals and sold for peanuts.
We never get these guys good loans that put them in the shop window either, the tactic Chavs use to profiteer from their youth system. Will never understand the point of loaning to league one, which we do a lot, because the club never uses a good season in league one as sufficient evidence that player may be ready for first team minutes. Which is surely the point of a development loan? If you can't loan to the championship, don't loan, keep them with the first team, chuck them in a cup game or two and actually try and give these guys a fucking chance.

Johnson’s stats for a winger are elite. The issue with Johnson is if he doesn’t score he doesn’t do much.
Bowen is by far West Ham’s best player, they where willing to sell Paqueta before he had the gambling issue, they are willing to sell Kudus, if they sell Bowen with their current squad they could easily get relegated which is why he is not for sale.
He is good at control, dribbling, passing, hold up play, linking and finishing. Similar to Saka he is an all round wide forward with few weak elements. I grew up in a West Ham area so a lot of my friends are hammers, to a man they think he is brilliant and they were right about Rio, Carrick, Defoe and Parker.
He is married to Danny Dyers Daughter so doubt he would come but I would 100% take him over Kudus, Eze or Mbeumo. He is a much better all round player, he is good across the board and would upgrade our attack.

They finished ahead of us two seasons in a row, but okay.
Just my opinion, but their keeper is better than our temperamental manchild. Digne is better than Udogie, their CB aren't better or worse than any of ours, they have proper 6s in Kamara and Onana, Watkins outscored Solanke, Rogers would've walked into our first XI...
Gordon-Isak-Murphy is better than Sonny/Tel-Dom/Richy-Brennan/Odobert in my books.
Trippier-Schar-Burns-Livramento was also more solid than Porro-Romero-Micky-Udogie.

Funnily enough i was starting to get the 2018 vibes the last couple of days. Where days and weeks go by with bog all going on. 6 weeks since our last game of the season, no one out and no one of substance in. Even rumours, bar Kudus, are minimal to non existant. Still plenty of time of course but if we're still here in 10/14 days i suspect it will be blind panic internally and certainly amongst the fanbase.
