Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Even if that rumour isn’t true, I still personally feel like this only happens if MGW publicly fights for it. Jonathan Barnett and Levy supposedly have quite a good relationship and even he was advising Bale not to come into training.

I’ve seen Kane’s summer 2023 mentioned by a few as to why we’ll still sign MGW regardless of preseason matches/tours, but Kane had already been internally pushing for a move for 2-3 years by that point, made it quite clear he wasn’t signing again and had the threat of walking on a free last summer, possibly to a Prem rival, hanging over Levy’s head. Feel like the situations just aren’t the same.

Hard to trust any of these Forest journalists. They've shown the last few weeks that they are just mouthpieces for the owner.

But wouldn't surprise me if true. MGW wanted City at the start of the Summer so personal terms probably not an issue. The question is, would City be willing to pay the 70m or whatever Forest want since the owner is claiming the release clause is void? Or do City just come in with the 60m too which surely will just annoy the owner even more!

My hunch is Forest are exaggerating these links to put some pressure on us to pay more as they are already resigned to losing MGW.

This MGW transfer is weird as either us or forest should be getting done for not letting the transfer to go through or tapping up?
Why would we walk away if nothing wrong has been done.

City knew the release clause as well but decided it was too much when Cherki and Reijnders are cheaper
That is a very fair theory. City have signed two players with a higher ceiling than MGW for less. It is very fair to assume they knew about the RC and decided against it.

This idea that we are robbing Forest blind with the RC is crazy. 60m is still a lot of money. I don't think anyone would have been willing to pay 70m+ for him.

Is MGW going to want them join them after they’ve made about 5 or so big signings in the last six months? Unlikely to be first choice

City are in a different position to us though we are struggling with home grown talent. I am pretty sure they would have known the release clause but it was not worth the premium for a Home Grown Premier League player so they may as well go get the two cheaper players.

No

yeah I'm not sure if City would even be willing to pay over 60m for him. They've already signed players in that position and have much bigger priority positions like right back and a grealish replacement.

Its also very fair to say that MGW prob doesn't get into their first XI. Rodri and Reijnders will be starting midfielders with either Cherki/Foden in the 10. Then they have options like Gonzalez and Bernardo Silva to come in too. He'd really struggle to get in their teama and could seriously stagnate his career.

In a world cup year.

"Also, a 20 year contract is a terrible idea"

It's guaranteed money FFS
20 years ago our shirt sponsorship sold for £5M/season.

In 2019, 14 years later, it sold for £40M/season.

A 20 year sponsorship does not benefit the club. Inflation narginalizes the income too quickly. Then you're just left with an asset that's tied down long term on below market terms.

Tottenham isn' some L1 outfit starved for revenue that needs to lock down £10M in annual revenue to ensure the survival of the club.

Not really news that they’ve been trying to shop him round to other clubs. It’s such a weird stance from their owner. Does he think City weren’t talking to his agent earlier on in the summer before they signed Cherki and Reijnders?
Every fucking club talks to agents. But when we do it, we are threathened with legal action by a psycho owner!!!
