It's not like Man City or Liverpool wanted him, a new contract with a reasonable fixed release for a a certain level of club with a big bump in pay would be easy to digest for him.

God knows what we’ll do now but the squad is miles off being competitive both domestically and in Europe.
Lack of presence and quality in central midfield, no central creativity without Maddison and Kulusevski. Still no cover or competition for a now injured? Udogie. We’ve potential but no quality wide left forward and both of our strikers are average at best. Look at the top 4 - they’ve been clinical in the transfer window and that’s on top of the very good to excellent players they already had.
