Media says it’ll likely get done at £60m/€70m. Fans say « just pay the money ».

Unfortunately negotiations are dynamic. The selling club is always trying to receive as much as possible. If they quote a figure and you accept straight away then they will move the goalposts to squeeze a bit more from you.

Negotiations are a form of price discovery and a game. A prediction is not the same as a price.
When it's a long-planned acquisition for an essential position where a price reasonably reflects the player's value to the selling club, absolutely, it's enraging when we haggle.

Here though? City are bluffing their asses off. We're not even having this conversation if they hadn't already decided what they're going to do with the money. Pep wants Rodrygo, hold their feet to the fire.

You have either never negotiated to buy or sell something or you had a suboptimal outcome.

I would love to sell to someone who will just pay the price. I’ll quote you more than I think they’re worth and when you accept I’ll either negotiate hard on payment terms (knowing you’re a soft touch) or find ways to make you believe you’re getting a good deal and make you pay all the extras (in this case agent’s fees, lawyers, bonuses).

In most transactions you take part in there is a price. Like milk or a computer. For houses and footballers there is price discovery through negotiation (« haggling »).

I suspect we will trim the squad as far as possible but wouldn't be at all surprised if we resort to what Chelsea did last season and just leave a good size swathe of players unregistered pending transfer or loan. Questionable at this stage whether registering Maddison even in January is worthwhile and so that frees up a spot, Kulu isn't back til April-ish so again you have to ask yourself serious questions about whether he is registered at all, will take well over a month to get him rehabbed anyway. Pending Savinho in I suspect we will get more serious about selling Solomon once he is back from his injury.

Well leaving aside your username origins...
Where did you pull that out from ?

Based on recent reports Kulu is expected to miss 1st month of the season. So could be back in mid September?
But sure... until Aprilish... :D

Thanks Mr. Facts And Logic :tanguythumb:

The real subtext here of course is that everybody loves to seize the opportunity to give Daniel Levy a taste of his own medicine, which will be particularly true at City after what they regarded as an unfair handling of the Kane situation (it wasn't, but that's how they feel).

This has made doing business harder for us for years, thankfully receding somewhat, but it still crops up from time to time.

Anyway, all of that aside, they will sell for 50, we have all the leverage here.

This soap opera narrative is media-fuelled shite to generate clicks.

Dunno why we leave everything to the last minute but hearing we are making a last ditch effort to get Eze!

I can't see it happening personally. But imagine this will be big news soon if we do make an official bid.
