Personally the frustration for me is it seems like when things (squad wise) are almost there but 2 more quality signings would potentially take us to the next level, when we seem to have a manager worth backing, Enic fail to deliver. I'm guessing it's because Levy is so rigid in his monetary thinking and therefore can't see the bigger picture, which would be the additional investment could very possibly bring greater success, therefore greater revenue.
I'm no business man but this has always baffled me!

It’s called penny wise pound foolish. A guy who would drive out of town to get cheaper petrol but have the total cost be more because of the drive there and back. I just think he views things as purely getting a good deal and the good deal is in front of him, in the moment. I don’t think he thinks well of if I pay £10m more than I wanted and we get player X he is so good we will do better and more likely qualify for the CL next season and make £50-100m back. It’s why the club really needs a strong DoF like we had with Paratici who is perhaps more minded about how to build an elite team and when to push the boat out.

Working in corporations my whole life and sometimes with directors or traders sometimes the smartest people you meet are the dumbest. In football terms most people are a 5/10 to 7/10 in terms of performance across the board, you can meet CEO’s who are 2/10 to 10/10 in terms of life performance. No joke I had to explain to one director in a very large firm what a bond was and this person worked in a bank, that same person was the best politician you ever meet. Think of it as a smart scientist who puts his pants on backwards and can’t open a door.

Exactly :frankthumbs:

I am not in any respect anti-Levy or ENIC. Arguably the best run club in the PL and solid as anything.

But fans of the club want to believe glory is possible, and that's only secured with a strong and competitive squad of players.

If Levy/ENIC dont want or can not fulfil that, despite public proclamation, then they need to offer an explanation, seek new investment, or consider selling up.

If we were a lesser club and if we had not just won the second biggest European club trophy, it might (only might) be okay. But we have.

If the route to be competitive has become one under whoch Levy cannot deliver he needs to do the right thing, and we then need to hope the security of the club can be combined with a bit more ambition on the pitch.

This is it. I'm not ignorant enough to suggest that he's done strictly a bad job as chairman. As that would be a lie. But it's come to the point were the club has outgrown anything they could possibly have dreamt of. They don't have the personal wealth for anything like a club of our size.

With no owner investment, that's why we see such a small portion of revenue to go to wages. They're averting risk, keeping the club afloat to keep revenue rolling in and that's it. While they're here this is always going to be the way. And with their unrealistic evaluation and seemingly moving goal posts in negotiations, we're stuck with them for the long-term.

He knows he's despised, he doesn't care.

Interesting post.
Started off a bit nervously, settled down, and gradually improved into the game.
Came out firing in the second half and smashed in a winner at the end.

Part of it is he wants to run the club more than he wants 300 million and retirement. We will never get out of the same patterns with him.

Part of the problem is he's probably holding out for a LOT more than £300m...

So in the meantime, he's happy to 'run/ruin' the club....

He's selfish, he's greedy, and he's a narcissist...

I just don't get HOW he can't grasp that sustained success and trophies, or at least CHALLENGING REGULARLY for trophies would double, triple, quadruple the marketing value of the club, and would reach whatever his Dream Sale price SO much more!

The difference between run and ruin is the "i"!!
It's all about Levy!

It's because he's risk averse. Investing in the quality needed to regularly compete for and win major trophies involves financial jeopardy he's not prepared to sanction.
Just remaining semi competitive while continuing to milk the gravy train and Investing the clubs wealth on off field projects and property development is far more financially nailed on in increasing the value of the asset

Levy continuing to run the club depends on him believing that he can get us challenging while running the club as he always has, sadly for us.

Something odd about the whole transfer window. Going in we heard a lot about the large sums that Spurs were prepared to spend and now it appears they won't. Maybe that was something Levy didn't really want to do and now he is playing for time by bidding on players he knows Spurs can't sign.

disagree with this. Deluded and tone deaf, he will bat it away as a vocal minority, which it was five year ago. Every Spurs fan I know hates him, and wants him gone. That wasn’t the case five years ago
I think the 'being hated' thing is a weird one, as he has CLEARLY done good things for our club, and deep down (dig deep.... Deeper.... DEEPER!) I think he does GENUINELY care!

It's just his job description and remit has overtaken everything else.
.yes he helped develop, design, build the stadium...
But I wouldn't expect the Architect of a new HOSPITAL to do the OPERATIONS once it opens ...

THAT'S why the Patient died!

Exactly. I do hate him, actually despise the man but can see his strengths and positive work too, and I agree he does care about the club. That said, his work is done and he’s harming our ability to build on his successes off the pitch

Annoying thing is that we look to have a very good manager who is extremely adaptable but we know as the season progresses , injuries will happen & he simply hasn’t got the squad depth or quality to compete.

Same story as ever really , if he isn’t backed fully he’ll be gone & we’ll see him succeed elsewhere . He seems a real talent

I’m just not sure about your first line. I’d definitely agree with arguably the best run sports franchise in the PL. but if you take the business side away and look at the football side of the club I think the evidence is there to suggest otherwise?
