Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He’s wasn’t playing right wing
He was according to this:

I did. It’s still stupid.

There’s no indication he’s THAT talented. Anything can happen in sport but Simon’s isn’t some god level talent and never has been.

He’s a really good, silky footballer and a great signing. There is zero indication he has the baseline level to be one of the best of all time; that’s just land of make believe .

What indications would there be?

Btw you are still missing the point. I wasn’t saying necessarily that he’s going to be an all timer , more that he’s at a similar stage to where Steph was when Kerr took over

All his effective work is coming off the left side, so don't know why that ginge blockhead played him on the right.

What did Gakpo do?

Gakpo was keeping the width on the left side with Micky underlapping when he went forward, whereas Simons sat narrower on the right side with Dumfries overlapping. Wasn't a great game from Simons, almost the worst performer of all 22 starters. Looked like he was mainly jogging whilst on the pitch. He did sprint once though towards the corner flag, which was nice so we know he's not an actual slug

We don’t know that. You are right, the odds are that he won’t become an undisputed GOAT like Steph, who is up there in the Kobe/Lebron echelon now.

But the point I’m making is that nobody had a clue what Steph would become before Kerr came in and guided them to become all time great franchise.

Simons is that kind of mercurial talent in style. The professional side of the sport has been part of his life from an early age as well

For me, no there are GOATS and THE GOAT.

MJ is still the GOAT but Steph is one of the GOATS for his influence on the game.

The greatest shooter of all time and imo the most entertaining player of all time
I agreed with multiple posts from you today and thought “wow this is fucking weird”. Then I read shit like this about a totally unrelatable sport and your “Solanke is top 3 striker in the pl” comes flooding back.

I’m delighted to have simons and he’s the first elite attacking player we’ve bought in a long time and does have a massive potential ceiling.

If he was still at Leipzig however, you would not be considering him for a potential “goat” list. Same with Solanke, if he’s still at Bournemouth he’s not getting near your top PL striker list.

Yesterday, Xavi played on the right wing for Netherlands. He is extremely technical and versatile. Can play on the left, on the right and in the middle as a fake, deep Number 9. He was also dropping in into the deep, fake Number 9 spot. And did well. For Netherlands he plays on the right because of Gakpo. Gakpo is a technically much, much more limited player who pretty much always goes to his right foot to find a shot there. Gakpo has seniority over Xavi in the Dutch national team.

Because of a lack of seniority Xavi also doesn't even get many passes in the Dutch national team. They don't play through him much. Consider him as a youngster.

anyone watch their game? How did VDV do at LB?

Gonna bang this drum regularly but I wanna see him there for us. His ball carrying and beautifully weighted, simple but arrowed passes down the line are wasted at CB. He’s also not a great box defender, Danso offers more in that role.

Probably the 12th time this has been posted, but my goodness there's some talent on show here.
The most excited I've been about a new signing since fellow Dutchie Rafa joined.

Finesse, ball control, X-factor. Can't wait to see him let loose against

Agree - even if he doesn’t explode and score 20 goals, it’s hard to think he will flop. Work rate, touch and awareness are superb so at the very least he’s gonna be a key team player, even if he doesn’t develop into a world class 10.

To be clear, I was not saying Xavi is a GOAT. I was saying he’s at a similar stage of his career to Steph was before Steve Kerr was appointed. Highly, from a football family and grown up around the professional game with great players as his role model, now primed to explode.

Will that explosion be to the same level as Steph? Odds are no because Steph is one of the all time greats in world basketball. But the similarity In readiness to next the next step are right there to see.
