Okay Frank we get that you like runners in midfield and you are bedding him in but Xavi is not a LW.
Not Johnson ---- Muani ---- Kudus

SImons ---------------- Bergvall
Paulinha

Or something like this in a 4-2-3-1

We need to make more use of Odobert, Tel, as it is nuts to play quality players out of their best positions.

Round pegs in round holes, need some serious upgrades come January. Need the quality of the likes of Savinho on the LW. We also needs a LB. Djed is a great player, but he is not making the runs he would normally do on the right.

So move him to RB and rotate with Porro, get a LB that better than Udogie and push him.

Noticed this more in the second half, as he was right in front of me - he was always looking for the ball to be played to him, his hands were up in the air, waving frantically, as he had quite a lot of space. But the ball rarely came over to him and we could see his frustration.
It'll take time for him to settle and for the team to get used to him, then we'll see whether he is the talent that we are hoping he can be.

Shocking comments from some on here.

He linked play really well mostly and opened up space for others. He made some great runs also.

He will almost certainly be more effective centrally but it’s obvious Frank is easing him in on the left for now. Especially as we have such limited options there currently.

Remember Modric played many games on the left to start with us. He has similarities to that little genius.

I have massive hopes for him long term, he will be a star. Bookmark this.

Don't like him at LW at all tbh, despite his having played there a lot in recent years. Feels like a significant limitation on his skillset, esp given our need for a playmaker in tight central spaces.

Think Odobert deserves a few more starts once Xavi and RKM are up to speed.

His yellow card was soft....but then the referee let him commit a series of far more serious fouls with no punishment.

The Villarreal manager was going nuts that Simons wasn't sent off......so the referee booked him instead.

Gotta love the modern game.

Man, my previous comment stated that I prefer him on the left than Johnson. Despite I think he should be better at his natural position, I didn't said he's bad at the left.

The sooner we ditch this idea that Johnson is the only other option on the left the better....

LW: Odo / Tel
CAM: Xavi / Berg (Kulu)
RW: Kudus / Johnson (Kulu)

What would solve our issues is if Odobert could be the answer there. It’s hard to think he can get there without playing through some “rough” starts though. I hope Frank takes the chance to do so though, otherwise our play will be stifled until at least the winter window, or maybe the return of kulu.

xavi is a decent lw option but really needs a committed overlap option outside of him while there.
