It's far too early in his tenure to make a definitive judgment on Frank. Those who say he has concentrated on the defensive side of the game are probably correct. We do look much more cohesive and structured and we are clearly harder to beat.

If, as believed, he has not yet turned to fixing our creativity and attack, and has been hamstrung (excuse the pun) by injuries, then the future is brighter.

IHowever, I have a niggling concern that he is ultra conservative and that what we're seeing is his modus operandi. I want us to be the force a club of our stature and tradition should be, not a mid table, defensively solid, mundane outfit. That is what I feared when Frank was being touted as a potential manager. Please, please, prove that my concerns were misplaced, Thomas.
A niggling concern...

There is actually several years of data you can look at. Frank will always be conservative and risk averse. A lot of people seem ok with that but not me. We are a massive club and we should act like one. That includes not being out played by teams rooted firmly at the bottom of the table.

So a team that was Joint 5th for goals scored last season on the lowest spend didn’t play good attacking football? :frankwtf:

It is possible to score goals but as a whole the football is not very entertaining to watch.

Woolwich under Arteta are accused of playing Pulis style football but they score plenty of goals

Throughout history this has happened at many clubs, however at this club it seems the fans demand free flowing, pleasing on the eye football alongside competing for the top prizes. That's a tough ask

So it begins, we already have people claiming Frank is too conservative/negative/his philosophy is based around set pieces etc etc blah fucking blah...

I will tell you the number one problem at this club for free, this fucking fan base is the problem.

The man has had less than ten games.

Reading these comments and the comments in the match thread I had to double check the league table to see if I was hallucinating and we were really in 14th or something.

Truly mind boggling
For a team that finished 17th last season , the first aim should be to sort out the defensive issues and make us harder to beat , once that is sorted he needs to work on the attack , it’s harder though as from last season we are missing Son , Kulu and Madders , it’s going to take time but that would be the same with any new manager.
I think he made mistakes with the lineup yesterday , but so far I’m happy with the start we have had, regardless it’s to early to properly judge him

Let’s have it right mate.

6 games in and our peer group in the league table is Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Bournemouth.
No wonder people are upset!!

Unbelievable and yes you know it…….

Yeah I guess time will tell , there was a moment yesterday though for Kudus offside goal , that was some beautiful football , just a shame Kudus stayed offside !! I hope this is the kind of football he wants us to play

The attacking performances have been poor.
Shall we pretend they haven't?
We are more solid = good
We are not good going forward = a concern.
That is just how it is so far .
It's only six games in. And all speculation on all sides.

Sarr is integral to tying our midfield together, whether that be in a 3 or a 2, I like bentancur he has his uses and has looked a better player than he did last season but I hope to see Sarr+Palhinha with Xavi in the 10 or at the tip of a 3 from now on

Agree.

And we are going at nearly 2 PPG with a +7 GD and two of our most creative players sidelined.

We won our first CL game and got through in the league cup.

We've had three reasonably hard games and three easier games on paper in the league, so I don't buy this "easy start" crap some people are spouting.

I tell you what would propel us forward and make our stadium a fortress, if our fans treated every home game like the NLD ans turned the place into a cauldron, that would he worth points in the bank and favourable officiating but our fanbase treats these lesser teams with contempt and sit on their hands and wait to be entertained.
The first misplaced pass the moans and groans start.

Basically this forum resonates that mentality.

One manager is too negative, the next is too attacking.

People demand that we smash every perceived smaller team while playing silky football and keeping it tighter than a ducks arse at the back.

In a nutshell I have come to the conclusion our fanbase is utterly deluded.

Yeah in the final third the players will be allowed to freely express themselves but to be effective we need better quality. Kudus, Simons and Bergvall are a good start but we need more at that level

Thats why if fir example we could add Semenyo, MGW and Kane next summer we could be far more clinical and good to watch

Context... how many of the 22 defeats did Romero and VDV start? I argue that the perceived defensive issues were down to unavailability of ker personnel and Frank hasn't done too much to make us solid. We still play a high line... we still play four at the back... and we still play a midfield 3 although 2 of those 3 are now more defensive by nature making our press a bit more effective although Wolves had no problem playing around and through it yesterday. For me the biggest difference in being difficult to beat is having your best players available week in week out.

MGW is average - he was on the bench yesterday.. Another low goals and assists limited player.
Forest will be lucky to get £20m for him

No way is he average. He is on the bench because Ange is rotating and the player himself has not recovered from being denied a move to Spurs. MGW would be a massive improvement on Bentancur and Bissouma who id gladly move on next ASAP

Our GD is +7 might actually be the best in the league...
The Villarreal, Wolves and Bournemouth attacking performances were lacking because all of those teams played a low block with no space behind and a fast transition counter attack style which has always been our kryptonite. Even in the hallogen glory days of Poch I can remember losing games to low block teams like Burnley at home 1-0.

Low blocks stink, but it is what it is.

Even the very best teams in this league struggle to break them down.

Woolwich's answer is to play Stokeball and utilize set pieces. Liverpools answer seems to be to wear teams down and pop up with late winners.

I just think expectations are unrealistic particularly 6 games into a new manager with players finding their feet in this league or being young and learning on the job.
