and after all teams have played 2 games we are still top on 6 points on a combination of GD +8 and goals scored (11).

The 36 club table is quite skewed though with the
- top 9 teams on 6 points
- Next 5 teams (down to 14th position) on 4 points (ie each have won one game)
- bottom 1 0 teams have 0 points (including Woolwich, Newcastle and our next opponents Monaco).
Top 22 go through and last season 8 points was enough to qualify for the knockouts so probably only 1 win from the next 4 games needed.

Sunday 5th October @ 16.00 - Newcastle u21 v Spurs u21 (PL2)

Last u21 Squad
Gunter, Cassanova, Ashcroft (Batty 82), Byfield (Arganese-McDermott 63), Upson, Russell-Denny (c), Akhamrich, Kyerematen, Scarlett (Lehane 63), Williams-Barnett (Black 82), O Irow (T Thompson 63).

A number of other players could come into the u21 squad - Archer )GK) , Rowswell (RB/CB, Hardy (CB), Byrne (LB) , Olusesi (CM), Beggs (CM), Moncur (AM) Adewole (AM), Elliott-Paris (striker) ...... possibly say 5 of them.

Agree - hadn't appreciated that top 22 clubs from the League phase go through to the knock outs to be joined by 10 clubs who have been though a knock out competition with (I think) 54 clubs competing ranging from Aston Villa to Lincoln Reds (Gibraltar) and Vikingur (Faroe Islands).

So a 32 club knock out phase in the 2nd half of the season, with Spurs well on their way to qualifying after 2 games.

The broadcast restrictions for PL2 games were removed this season so that's likely bollocks from the club.

I'm shocked. Not.
We are one of the biggest clubs in the world but If you have been watching any of the lower league games featuring our loanees, or even away academy games where the comms are from the opposing sides, you will notice that all of the commentary teams are exactly that. A team of 2.
And we put up with that bored and boring guy who can't be bothered talking half of the time.
Spursplay is a fucking shambles.

Also signed Austen Ball from Luton, same age-group.

As you possibly already know, in the last few years its become more and more common for bigger clubs to 'acquire' players in the 13/14/15/16 year old age groups to augment their own academy kids.

Assessing whether the kids will go on to become successful footballers is bound to be a bit of a lottery in these age groups, eg. kids slightly taller or stronger at that age might look better than their contemporaries but as they grow and lose that advantage, will look no better than others in that age group.

Its been apparent in last few years that Spurs have become more active in these lower age groups than they used to be, and we may be seeing some results already with some good u16's playing up in u18's (eg Oscar Sandiford signed from Palace in 2024 and Phoenix Offiah signed about 18 months ago). However it maybe a year before we see much of current Spurs u15 players playing up in u18's and can assess them, but reports are that they are winning matches by a lot of goals which cannot be bad and we know we've got 3 (?) players called up for E u15's and one called up for Portugal u15's which is a good sign.

Signing the kids so young is a long term project, so all we can do is to hope our recruiters are better than those who saddled us with the likes of Egan-Riley, James and likely Batty and Furnell-Gill at an older age.

LWB on 28 mins 1-0 up
