Match PSG v Tottenham Hotspur Wednesday 8pm

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Goal one - rocket out of nowhere.
Goal two - rocket out of nowhere.
Goal Three -a'most out of nowhere.
Goal four - scrappy goal
goal five - penalty.

Not one of their goals actually "opened us up"
They were all freak goals. It is genuinely mad that it happened 4 times. But the fact they scored 5 and we had a higher Xg tells you something was off.
I actually think all 3 of ours were better team goals, although obviously not as easy on the eye as Vitinha's
Forget xg it’s a load of bloody nonsense.

Richarlison was excellent, put in a good shift; and having a 2nd striker next to him brought out his best.

Spence was terrible; and should have gone off early in the 2nd half. He was gassed and lost concentration very early.

Bergvall showed a bit of rust early but grew into the game. He is going to be one of the best players in Europe and Spurs really need him playing more often.

This odd habit Spurs have of retreating into their 18 yard box and surrendering the ball is proving suicidal. Spurs need to be aggressively pressing the other team for 90 minutes - not gassing out and waiting till the 80th minute to make changes. Subs should have been immediately after making the game 2-1 in the 50th minute. Muani off (hard call since he had just score) and Kudus on to give width, and Palhinha on for Grey to protect the defence. Along with Spence (who was dead) for Udogie
Richy off not Muani and Palhinha on for Bentancur not Gray.Hray was playing better than Bentancur . Both Bergvall and Gray should start against Fulham.

Lots to be positive about from that IMO, definitely a freakish amount of goals for what actually happened on the pitch, you’ll see 0-0 draws with more clear cut chances than that.

Fair and honest view although I would question the over priced shit comment. We are very quick to blame players... players who we are all genuinely excited about when we sign them. Everyone was gushing over the Kudus and Simons signing... Simons in a particular... the fanfare when we signed Palhinha on loan was something else. Roll forward five months and they can't all be shit. I have a theory, that the Spurs shirt is like kryptonite. Only the absolute best (Son, Bale, Kane, Modric, Van der vaart) can wear it without their game falling off a cliff. Think about it... remove those five and can't think of any over major singing that has even lived up to their billing...
yep. But what I've noticed is that when we get a 'worldy' player it seems to give the other competent players a boost in. ? confidence? and they up their game sometimes significantly

Just because you don't understand something, it doesn't mean that it's nonsense. For anyone with a brain, the relationship between xG and actual results over time is very obviously clear, and can be shown by xG league tables etc, which are not perfect by any means, but are a reasonable proxy for actual results. Of course due to its nature it can be misleading for individual games, but having watched the game last night, I don't think it's misleading here at all - on the balance of play, we did well, and a draw would probably have best reflected that balance of play. Crazy worldies and stuped defensive brain farts fucked what would otherwise have been an excellent result to match an otherwise excellent performance.

Very different to the Woolwich game.

PSG - played well, tactics mostly fine and not cowardly against the CL winners. We could easily have gotten a draw even a win without individual errors. Play this against most teams we will win as PSG have outstanding quality .

Woolwich - cowardly tactics that were also useless (2 in the middle) and players not fighting.

Both defeats but PSG could have been something else. If you watched jsut the PSG game you would have a lot of hope for the future, if you watched the Woolwich game you would think we where fucked.
One tactical tweak that I see as needed after tonight is to push the midfield up a bit in defending. The mistakes and gifted goals last night came from the midfield falling into the backline to form a defensive wall, which left Vitinha and the other PSG midfielders with too much space to operate in.

A opposite problem to what we had under Ange with too much space between the midfield and defence. But one that should be reasonably easy to fix.

Frank's Brentford had a similar issue according to tacticos.

We scored 3 goals against the best team in Europe and we produced an xG that was 30 times higher than we did against Woolwich. For the squad we have that’s a good showing, clear improvement.

If we show the same again on Saturday we are going to win.
...until they start awarding additional bonus points for a higher xG, then it will continue to prove frustrating WHENEVER you don't win.

We had a higher xG than PSG and lost, and virtually NO xG against the Arse and LOST...!
GO FIGURE!

What a fukkin strange game, I didn't go into this match thinking we would win as our history with PSG is known to all.

I'm not furious, I didn't want to pull my hair out or want to kill myself after watching it.

We had defensive mistakes that wanted me to sigh more than scream. Romero's handball, personally I don't hate him for it as it's an honest mistakes & it's not like he was trying to play volley ball just an honest mistake. I keep having to remind my friends that UCL refs don't give a fukk & they won't take any shit so it would always be given as a pen.

Bergvall setting up our goal was class! Id even go to say Archie Gray had a lovely display of great football also we kept great formations on & off the ball. You could see that defensively we kept to a great triangle formation giving PSG a good aggressive press but we all know that PSG win games from the midfield. as always we seem to be losing possession soo easily with sloppy passing which did get better at times but our BOZO moments with a team like PSG or any team of quality will always be capitalised on with goal threats against us.

The bottom dollah in this game is that PSG just have better players with better coach that are well drilled. You could just see how their patterns of play are just superior, their weight of pass was superior & their attack just outshine ours.

Here's my major issue & it's on Thomas Frank - just look at how PSG & other teams implement substitutions compared to Spurs ATM, this was a massive gripe I had with Ange why does Frank ALWAYS wait soo long to bring on Subs??? If we are aggressively pressing constantly then that should be met with some fresh legs sooner or am I just being a twat here???

Here comes the rub which has just annoyed me is that why are we soo inconsistent? I loved we turned up or his game & it WAS entertaining but why can't we keep that same energy??? I don't know the answers I'm just a Spurs fan I guess...

I wouldn't put too much on Romero, but if you were to look at value of the squad, and say "how can we re-shuffle this to have a better team", then I think there's a good chance you would take the cash for him next summer, invest that in MF/LW/CF, and promote Danso and Vuskovic. Romero playing well is a great defender, but he makes more than his fair share of costly mistakes.

Also Palhinha and Bentancur as a two doesn’t work and if ever used should be a 3 with Bergvall or Gray to offer a better ball player. It hurt us against Woolwich,, Bergvall is elite in one key area, he is Dembele-lite on the ball, bit reckless at times but he can really put his foot on it which is key.

It’s about goals not this xg rubbish.

It's clearly not nonsense when your own post shows we scored more goals with a higher xg than our last game.
We had 3 shots against arse, with a 0.07 xg and the only goal we scored was a freak goal.
We had had 11 last night and scored 3 great team goals.
More shots. More Xg. More goals.

We limited PSG last night to long range shots.
And let them all in.
Most matches none go in. Last night, 3 went in.

My thoughts exactly, I don't think any team likes it when the opposition go at them. As long as there is the proper structure to cope with a turnover situation, playing with intensity will always result in a good few opportunities. we are so immobile at times it really annoys me. I'd go as far as to say if we had approached the NLD with that attitude and team starting, we could easily have got a draw from the game. It's time we used Gray more as well, I really think the kid has something special about him.

Wait until January..then we'll see exactly where we're going...
Well apart from Woolwich there is a big drop off & it is quite open for top 4. So if we do get our act together & be consistent then top 4 is there for the taking. But I could just as easily see us finishing 10th. But obviously frank needs the full season and then see where we are at.
We 100% need 3/4 starting 11 signings though. Until then it’s ‘top 4’ being our everything.

He's not cowardly which helps.

Its time we just invested in our young midfield players really.
We're not going to get anything more out of the older ones

We had fuck all xG against Scum and we scored fuck all goals.
