The ball doesn't stick to our attackers because they regularly receive the ball in situations where the odds are heavily stacked against them: Back towards the goal and heavily marked.

And the passes are also made from very narrow angles where defenders, the trio of Romero-VDV-Porro in particular, get trapped outside. The whole midfield gets bypassed in this process where defenders try to identify and find attackers as their targets.

How often have you seen these this season?

These are low percentage plays regardless of who're involved. The ball more often than not will come straight back to your half as if you just kicked it against a wall. And if the ball stays inside your own half for long stretches, chances are you'll eventually concede because of the way you keep inviting pressure.

Sorting this issue of midfield is his best bet of sorting the defense out, something he actually hasn't done at all. We're conceding at the rate of 24/25 since mid-September after an early and brief bounce.
distance is too big, needs midfielders coming short to open spaces up for others too. when playing balls that long you need a third runner to be getting a knock on from the forward, we dont even have that. very easy to defend against, its actually the dream case scenarios for defenders.

How long will he continue to live with these? could be the most urgent question regarding his approach right now. Continuing to hand them out like candy is getting silly now, considering how hard we have to work to create anything on the other end.

Only Vitinha's goals could be explained away as instances of getting burned by clinical finishing, although even in those cases could close downs have been better. And the rest ranged from minimal to no obstruction of the opponents' vision, making it clear that this is a deliberate defensive strategy to keep inviting those shots.

Or the players are just lazy and slow to close down?

I see that happening all over the rest of the pitch. See Bruno’s goal the other day which was scathing on the whole team.

I don't want him back and any points I make about his actual performance (relative to squad ability) while he was here is simply to highlight the incredibly tough job Frank (or any other manager) has - and always did have.

I mean if that's not clear to you by everything I post - and have posted since this time last year then I can't help you. 🤷‍♂️

Ie: just one very legitimate concern is injuries. We are awful now but imagine if Cuti, VDV and Vic all went down. We'd be in all sorts. At least Frank seems mindful of that hence managing VDV's minutes even potentially at his own cost.
why can't you make your points without bringing up that shitbag no one else even wants to think about? it kinda sounds like you do kinda want him back. either that or you're just being a prick not unlike your favorite coach with no job

Well there is also that; albeit from a few years back. I see only one common denominator here.

See also his comments regarding how Fulham scored from low xG chances, indicating that he had little issue with this:

You could of course give Frank benefit of the doubt if you wish, but there is too much evidence against it for me to continue to do so at this point.

Not This

Lose Saturday and we are bang in a relegation battle especially with three tough fixtures to end the year... I am tired of excuses... this is Ange's fault, the squad is shit, Arteta finished 8th in his first two seasons so Frank needs time... BULLSHIT!!! He is fucking footballing dinosaur who plays terrorist football... Ange is gone, the squad cost over 750m (200m of which was spent under Frank's watch), and Arteta had a clear plan and earnt the time by winning the FA Cup... Frank has no plan... different players, different formations he doesn't even have the bollocks to call out those briefing against him. He is the fucking Head Coach... get a fucking grip or get off the pot!!!

I agree with you. I liked the post because its essence was to treat the managers on their merits. We all know why we finished 17th. Blind Freddy could see what Ange was doing with (as the poster said) a depleted squad.

And why can’t you make your point without referring to the manager, who’s last act with us was winning a European trophy, as a prick and shitbag?

Particularly when the present manager is serving up the worst quality of football since Methuselah was in primary school.

I didn’t know that but it does sound familiar.

Because I like to remind people like you that I was right and you were wrong?

It's really really petty I know but hey, I'm human 🤷‍♂️

Exactly.

There's a middle ground FFS. There's context. But like the rest of online discourse, some people make it either all good OR all bad. No half way position

The man gave us fifth in his first season-which will be f'e n amazing if Frank does- a European Cup, Champions league qualification and some amazing football early on.. He also had a shit second season...and supposedly ALL of that makes him a shit bag? GTFO here.

Yeah but we still suffer from the same problem we have since... well since Dembele and Eriksen left? We can't control midifeld and we have no decent passing. The last manager compensated for that by inverting Porro - which left us open at the back (and had a fit Maddison who would drop and link etc)

Frank, who doesn't even have Maddison, is compensating by simply bypassing midfield altogether as much as possible. It's horrible to watch (and not proving successful because our forwards can't keep the ball) - but you can at least understand why he does it (even if you disagree with its efficacy).

We desperately need quality passing in midfield. But we've known that for 6 years and haven't done anything about (apart from Maddison)

When every last brick of the comforting lies they told themselves and others has crumbled into dust, anger and abuse is all they have left.

Which isn't surprising as anger and abuse is all they had to begin with.
Not sure we’re at the stage of things crumbling into dust, as Ange had numerous faults and needed replaced.

What I do think will dawn on a number of posters, particularly after the January window closes, is that Ange and Levy maybe weren’t the major problems we needed to solve.

Saying that, hopefully they are correct, we sign some real game changers and Frank turns into something more than a high school team manager. I’ll eat tonnes of humble pie if that happens.

If you are representative of our fanbase, we deserve all the fuck all we get.

Whats more depressing is have a look how deep we sit in these situations.
Always with 2 to 4 players picking up fresh air.
Picking up nearest man should be a given at least as a defender.

This needs a leader at back who can talk, when do you see anyone barking instructions to push up or pick up players…far too placid as a group.
If someone not picking up ,why the fk not ,get right up them.
Also if Thomas is happy to let the players invite a dig at goals without pressure or getting a foot in as you say,he should be given his P45 on the spot.
