I’d say those two, Muani and Paulinha were the signings he was actually involved in.
Kev was an obligation and the other two lads were coming in no matter who was manager.
Well let's agree that Frank has signed 2 players and the loan players.

I found this interview question and answer with Frank and it doesn't make much sense to me. It's double speak or something, I don't know what to call it, he seems to answer yes in the first sentence but steps back from that later in the paragraph.

Will you hope to have the final say, if it’s a player potentially in January or the summer?

Thomas: “I always have a final say, you know that, of course, in the end. It's team work. I'm pretty sure if one of the, I would say three of us, because Vinai is the same, not technically, technical or whatever you call it. Of course, he will have an opinion, but the three of us need to agree and if one, let's take an example, it doesn't matter if it's me, Fabio, and it's very, very, very strong, they should not be the player, then that's probably not that right. So, I'm pretty sure that we will find a good way to do it.”

“Double speak” is a bit George Orwell’s 1984. We have at least escaped from the likes of Ian Walker and Ramon Vega playing for us😅

He’s saying that 3 of them have a say on a player and if 1 of them had major doubts the signing probably wouldn’t happen.

Seems simple to me. Perhaps Thomas and I work for the ministry of truth😉

I thought he firstly said he had a final say (meaning ultimately he decides) then later three of them need to agree, then later again they'll find a good way to do it. He also seemed to be saying not if one of them had major doubts it wouldn't happen, rather if one of them had major doubts that's not right because the three of them need to decide not one of them.

Whatever way I look at it, it seems that he opened his mouth, and it all came out like he didn't know how best to answer so he tried to cover all bases in one paragraph.

So we still don't know if he has a final say in transfers after reading his answer,

He said he has the final say, but if one of the 3 had major concerns the purchase probably isn’t going to happen. I don’t understand how it’s that hard to understand. The article has been deliberately written like that to be a bit cuntish. Yes, he likes to say very a lot.

Why not add in the “umm” “listen” or “look” if he was a natural English speaker?

Manager with 5x more resources beats team he should shocker.

Was this talk going on last season with ange? Yes it’s not been ideal this season. Feel like Ange got so much more wiggle room with the media especially and to a smaller extent fans. Let the new manager have a couple more transfer windows to buy players he wants, and also get rid of the deadwood he doesn’t.

What are we doing now, giving a new manager one transfer window before getting rid of him? Frank was allowed to sign one player and bring 2 on in on loan for fuck sake. Yes we won the EL, but lose that coin flip of a game last season and it’s our worst since the 70s?? Think quite a lot of fans have forgotten about that. No Maddison or Kulu. Solanke too but I think Frank will sell him as soon as possible.
Absolutely not, the media hated Ange, and love Frank.

The vast majority of the criticism Frank has rightfully received for the insipid home performances has come from within the fanbase.

Just a minute, we weren't 17th at this stage last season, with 15 matches played we were 11th with 20 points. So in fact it's a small step being 9th at this stage with 22 points.

There's a little nuance to that, though.

We were 11th on 20 points with Kulu, Son, Solanke and Madison AND AngeLOSS had been here over a year to instigate "Angeball"

Frank's had 60 goals taken away and only 15 games to undo "Angeball" and all its faults.

15 games into Ange's FIRST season he had the dribbling idiot media eating out of his hands.
"It's just who we are, mate" and all that.
They turned on him by the end of that season, was a classic build-you-up-to-knock-you-down cycle. Most were incredibly bitter about the Europa win too.

Frank’s well known to these people, and since the majority of them behaved like he was 10 levels above his predecessor, they’ve been very reluctant to criticise.

He knows the Brentford players and management inside out - you’d expect him to get the tactics right.
This was my thought too - if theres one team he should get it right against its them.
However its a step in the right direction - more aggression, forward passing and better movement off the ball which we havent seen in a long time.
I think Xavi is the key to opening up the pitch and especially the middle for us. Hope he builds on this and gains more confidence because theres a vital player there for us and we need him to step up.

Gray, Bergvall and Muani could all flourish and feel close to getting a lot better soon too - if we can get all them and Kudus in good form our attacking will improve drastically.

Beating Brentford at home is good to see but let's keep things in perspective here.

We have been awful to watch under Frank. Today, one game, we were a good watch.

Green shoots, we can be positive about that, it's a step in the right direction and it's something to cling onto.

I've been pretty critical of him when we lose and play shit so I'm happy to vocal when we do the oppesite.

Let's not get carried away, United have also turned dozens of corners under Amorim already. The bar is so low that the odd dominant win against Brentford or Copenhagen that wouldn't have been newsworthy up until the last season looks like a revelation.

But like I said, it looked like he was more willing to take risks by positioning both fullbacks, not just one, in the midfield area at the expense of leaving a back two of Romero and VDV. Instead of the usual 3-2-4-1, it was more like a 2-4-4 in possession with Porro becoming another midfielder/attacker instead of staying back at all times.

(2-4-4)
Romero-VDV
Porro-Gray-Bentancur-Spence
Kudus-Simons-RKM
Richarlison

A mini sequence or two to illustrate the point:

Spence cannot be seen here and would only appear on the scene later, but I think we can reasonably assume that he was somewhere on the wide left being watched by Brentford's number 19.

Porro's cross got deflected for a corner. Decent break.

------

You can see Spence drifting far left and Gray-Bentancur dropping back to once again create that 2-4 shape in the buildup, stretching Brentford's press to the fullest to widen the passing angles.

This could work I think, considering that we have two CB / DM hybrids in Palhinha and Gray to sit in front of that back 2 of Romero and VDV to provide some insurance.
