There's a little nuance to that, though.

We were 11th on 20 points with Kulu, Son, Solanke and Madison AND AngeLOSS had been here over a year to instigate "Angeball"

Frank's had 60 goals taken away and only 15 games to undo "Angeball" and all its faults.

If you're comparing Managers, than comparing first season is a like-for-like comparison. Angeball happened in the pre-season, we saw it against Barca.

If you're comparing this season with the last then there marginal gains and the football at this stage is very hard to watch under Frank.

Unfortunately my conclusions is this IS "Frank-ball" with THIS squad.

The endless comparisons with last season are downright weird at this point. Like what does it matter - all it does it just stir up bullshit Ange vs Frank debates.
Exactly!
A comparison with last season is meaningless, as the variables that will lead to the eventual outcome of this season are different to last season's variables.

They turned on him by the end of that season, was a classic build-you-up-to-knock-you-down cycle. Most were incredibly bitter about the Europa win too.

Frank’s well known to these people, and since the majority of them behaved like he was 10 levels above his predecessor, they’ve been very reluctant to criticise.
Maybe you need to listen to more outlets.

I was listening to talksport in the morning the day after the Newcastle game, they were asking why Eddie Howe, who is below us in the League, isn't getting all the flack at the moment.

Let's not get carried away, United have also turned dozens of corners under Amorim already. The bar is so low that the odd dominant win against Brentford or Copenhagen that wouldn't have been newsworthy up until the last season looks like a revelation.

But like I said, it looked like he was more willing to take risks by positioning both fullbacks, not just one, in the midfield area at the expense of leaving a back two of Romero and VDV. Instead of the usual 3-2-4-1, it was more like a 2-4-4 in possession with Porro becoming another midfielder/attacker instead of staying back at all times.

(2-4-4)
Romero-VDV
Porro-Gray-Bentancur-Spence
Kudus-Simons-RKM
Richarlison

A mini sequence or two to illustrate the point:

Spence cannot be seen here and would only appear on the scene later, but I think we can reasonably assume that he was somewhere on the wide left being watched by Brentford's number 19.

Porro's cross got deflected for a corner. Decent break.

You can see Spence drifting far left and Gray-Bentancur dropping back to once again create that 2-4 shape in the buildup, stretching Brentford's press to the fullest to widen the passing angles.

This could work I think, considering that we have two CB / DM hybrids in Palhinha and Gray to sit in front of that back 2 of Romero and VDV to provide some insurance.

If we set up to play that against better teams it will be interesting

Once again, a very stretched back 4 that's in practice a back 2 where Porro and Spence are positioned like wide midfielders instead of defenders. To emphasize the free license given to them, you can also see Kudus and RKM, the right and the left winger respectively, drifting towards the centre to clear the each lane.

Bentancur drops back to once again create that 4 man midfield of him and Gray + 2 fullbacks, in front of the back 2 of Romero and VDV. It's actually a 2-5-3 with Kudus being there also.

See how far and back Brentford's two wingers in Outtara and Schade are stretched due to Porro and Spence's positioning, and how this opens the centre of the pitch where there's a clear 3v1 advantage for us inside the dotted area.

Simons also drop back to make this a 2-6-2. There doesn't seem to be an advantage for us inside the dotted area this time since it's a 3v3, but notice how Brentford's Thiago has abandoned his assignment VDV to provide that additional body there. VDV is free now.

Even though every Brentford player is marking somebody, you can see VDV wide open and asking for the ball. That's the way to stretch the pitch, well done.

We're safely through.

Well, isn't this the revival of the (in)famous 2 man high line that we were ridiculing? It kind of is, but as long as you're being measured with it by let's say keeping a holding midfielder in front of that defense at all times, it could work. Besides, there's nothing wrong with picking your spots with this: Try sorting this dreadful home form by overwhelming the -much- weaker opponents with something like this while also earning some much needed fan support, and revert back to a more pragmatic setup away if you wish.

Ange's indiscriminate use of such ambitious setups, irrespective of the scoreline and strength of the opponent among other factors, was what turned the whole thing to a running joke. There's no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Absolutely not, the media hated Ange, and love Frank.

The vast majority of the criticism Frank has rightfully received for the insipid home performances has come from within the fanbase.
It depends on who you're talking about when you say "media." The actual beat reporters (other than Gold) hated him because he was always a prick to them, but the talking heads and pundits loved him because of his pithy quotes and style of play.

I've got splinters in my arse from sitting on the fence when it comes to TF.
I championed his appointment then after 7-8 games in I started to question his first 11 selections and how ponderous we were under him.
After Brentford I saw a small light of hope that Frank has finally settled on his best 7-8 PL players are, and now knows the importance of free flowing football is to The Lane faithful. If we see this continue, win, lose or draw I'll back him at least to the end of the season and hopefully beyond!
