Player Guglielmo Vicario

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

VDV didn't do anything wrong tbh. The vast bulk of the fuck up was on Vic. Romero's play might have been uninspired, but it wasn't dangerous. Gray was slightly at fault, but again, it's really on Vic.
VdV never turned to receive the ball going forward, he stood facing his own goal. Had the ball gone to him and the man followed the ball, VdV's option would have been turning to his right to go forward with the ball or play a high risk outside of the foot pass back to the loon.

I guess these exemplify what people suggest he should've done:

Ignores Sarr in the centre to put VDV in a tight spot instead

Ignores Palhinha in between the 2 Villa players, takes the safe option to VDV instead

Ignores Simons to once again force VDV to a hopeless long ball

Except these sequences only kick the can down the road: They 9 times out of 10 lead to a low percentage long pass and a turnover, one of our biggest issues under Frank. We not only fail to progress the ball, but also give opponents chances to come straight at us. Why do you think we're conceding this many goals despite playing this negative?

--------

But what he did yesterday directly led to a goal instead. Is that what you want?

Only because Gray failed to do the bare minimum, which was to channel the ball towards the wide open Romero through some kind of contact on the ball. He saw Romero open, knew the play which was a simple triangle, and still tried to control it for whatever reason.

If Gray doesn't fancy himself one touching it there then he doesn't belong to this level, simple as that.

VDV could have received the ball on his left and gone up the wing. He had plenty of space if the pass from Vicario was properly hit. Which it wouldn't have been of course.

Can't agree with the idea that going long is similar risk-wise to playing that ball to Gray !

One touching it which way? It was to the wrong side of him and to the wrong foot to be 'one touching it' to the open player

Should've very slightly moved towards Romero while also turning his body in that direction as the pass was coming so that his right foot would've been where his left foot actually was. And then it's a simple pass with his strong foot.

He lost that split second by looking at Romero's direction while waiting for the pass.

if you look at the wider game shot he's not even that open as a forest player is running to press him. the simple one touch pass that so many are saying archie should've hit was in fact very difficult and if he misplays it the player pressing romero easily intercepts and is through on an open goal because vic is all the way on the other side of the pitch. the fact is they had numbers on us across the back and vic should've hit it long in this instance.

he's moving towards vic with a player on his ass and you want him to chip that practically around the corner to romero who's also being closed down? it's a shit show moment with a bunch of players who can't be bothered and are just going through the motions for a coach they don't respect.

Yeah this whole "if he adjusts his body" is nonsense. He had half a second before Soumare was nicking it, and if he took that to adjust his body, it's gone anyway

If a professional football is unable to play first time pass, then the game is fucked.

This and most of the other threads on this forum make depressing reading, it's hard to stay optimistic. I accept we can't always win, but our players, and it appears our coaches too, are so ineffectual.
Don't know what the answer is - it's not as if we can change the entire team in one or two TWs, and doubt Frank will be sacked before the end of the season, if then. :(
