Keep him in front of the back four, doing what he does best and he’s the very least of our problems.

I’m not sure Frank (if he stays) has the balls to take the armband off the Argentinian clown, but it would be the first job I’d do if JP was signed permanently.I've changed my mind on his loan.
Sign him up.
Make him Captain and first name on the teamsheet.
Palhinha simply isn’t good enough on the ball nor mobile enough to do a Sissoko/Gallagher role.
Poch liked energetic physical midfielders, but there’s a reason he got rid of Capoue and Stambouli ASAP.
Dier (long passing, Deep Crossing), Wanyama (press resistance, ball carrying) , Dembele ( press resistance, dribbling), Winks (DLP) all had something to offer in possession.
You’ve immediately lost your argument mentioning Sissoko in the same breath as Palhinha!Palhinha simply isn’t good enough on the ball nor mobile enough to do a Sissoko/Gallagher role.

Sissoko, Capoue, Stambouli, Palhinha,Acting as if Sissoko or Gallagher are actually any better on the ball than Palhinha is is wild.
The reason he got rid of Capoue was because Capoue was lazy and Stambouli was crap, how are you even actually profiling Palhinha and comparing him to Stambouli anyway is hilarious because they're not the same top of player, what a lazy comparison.
Are you listening to yourself, the guy played Eric Dier at the base of his midfield and youre telling me he wouldn't play Palhinha.
Anyway it's moot, I don't even know how Poch came up in this conversation, what a weird argument.
Winks was good for Poch before injuries slowed him down massively. He turned to crap under Jose.

Portuguese Steffen Freund could never.
Sissoko’s up to Paulinha’s age had a miles better career. You’ve immediately lost your argument mentioning Sissoko in the same breath as Palhinha!

spot on mate!Name me a better midfielder currently in our squad? Or name me a midfielder that we have that excels in other areas of the game as he does in his. First name on the team sheet for me he's got goals and assists from midfield wins the ball can pass as he showed last night and has 100% commitment and a fuck ton of passion. We are fucking mugs if we don't sign him yet persist with the likes of bentancur and gray.
He scored the late equaliser deep in injury time.Btw your sticker is nothing to be proud of - instead of rushing back to the centre circle for the restart, he’s taking his top off for an equaliser vs the worst team in the league. At home. Some mentality that is!
Which is fine. Don't play him like that.Palhinha simply isn’t good enough on the ball nor mobile enough to do a Sissoko/Gallagher role.

Really you think there's some big difference huh? I think they are much of a much . Physically specimens, good characters as men but flawed and inadequate as technical footballers. They are pretty much like negatives of each other .You’ve immediately lost your argument mentioning Sissoko in the same breath as Palhinha!

For a man that screens the back 4, we give up a shit ton of chances. His lack of ability on the ball puts us under pressure which means he has to tackle more.I do!
Palhinha excels at what he does best which is tackle and break up play whilst screening the back four.
The mistake has been pairing him with sideways and backwards Bentancur.
He needs pairing with a dynamic and progressive passing 8 who he can offload the ball to.
This is it, Palhinha rushes around and makes great tackles, but I don't see much to suggest he screens the back four well. Would be a decent signing for a smaller fee, but we'll be in continued bother if Palhinha is starting for us regularly in the coming years. For a man that screens the back 4, we give up a shit ton of chances. He's so technically inept, unless he has all the time in the world on the ball (Bournemouth). Then we have a gap between him, to Bentancur, to whoever is playing at the 10. And there's no chance to play the ball, passing it back or hoofing it up, which makes the ball come right back to us.
For him to be effective, and it really is maybe 5-10 games a season, sure pair him with two water carriers who will be close enough to him to give him an out ball, fine. But paying that much money for a 31 year old who's okay at doing one very specific thing is why we're in this mess.
You're laughing at sideways backways Bentancur but think this guy is a good footballer. The mind baffles.
Great post. Actually think Kulu and Madders could work well with JP, but who knows what level they can get back to.Paulinha and VDV are the two who give everything in every game. I see them taking responsibility on the pitch and there’s not one player in the league that will enjoy coming up against them. We need these warriors and it’s finding the balance to get quality in around Paulina. I’m all for us signing Reuben Neves who can play and dictate a game who’ll find that pass forward. Xavi in front of them is perfect. That’s the balance we need that offers everything you want in a midfield trio. Solid, aggressive, powerful, passing ability, guile, class and vision.
Keeping Paulinha is a must for me but get the right guy in to play next to him. Gray and Bergvall are squad players and not ready to make us better. Sarr is a nothing player and Bentancur is in a way too similar.
