Player João Palhinha

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

You do post some absolute pish sometimes! 😂

Poch anchored the midfield and screened the defence with Eric Dier!

He absolutely would have used Palhinha, but paired him with someone more progressive on the ball.
Dier was 10x the footballer Palhinha was in his younger years, that’s why he was able to play Right Back in his first season.

Good free kick taker, underrated crosser, able to punch though the lines and a reliable long passes.

I think recency bias is clouding your memory

Eric Dier 2014-18 and Eric Dier after that are not the same guy. His agility went which is why he had to move to CB permanently.

I was not an Eric Dier hater at all. He was a warrior in the same mindset as JP. Every team needs players like that.

TBH the way he broke up play and got about the pitch was very reminiscent of Palhinha.

Palhinha excels at what he does and could easily be a main stay of a decent midfield with two better midfielders alongside him.

Dier could play football, which is why Pochettino kept him.

He was able to play in a team that keeps >55% of possession regularly, which at the very least shows he was a competent user of the ball. I never once watched us in the Poch years and felt that Dier was a weak link on the ball.

Palhinha has not shown this and at 30 years old he’s not about to change.

If he’s as good as you say, why did Kompany get rid? This is a simple question.

Laugh all you want at my posts but Bayern only other CM options are a declining Goretzka and two largely untested young players in Bischoff and Pavlovic / and yet still, Palhinha was still exiled. Why?

Palhinha already has 5 goals in half a season! Not bad for someone who can’t play football!

Tuchel wanted JP and Kompany has come in to play a different way. Bayern dominate possession in a league that they win virtually every year so a player like Palhinha wasn’t required in the same way he is in the more competitive Premier League.

He's a scored a few goals, so? Doesn't change the fact he's shite. Richy has scored a few goals, also shite.

He'll be going back to Munich in the summer and move. To Fulham for half what our agreed fee is.

Richarlison is a bad footballer too and he scores goals. I still want to get rid of him as well.

He stands out scoring goals for us, because our whole game plan is set pieces. That’s why Romero and Van Der Ven also have notched a few as well.

Of the teams in the league above us, how many of them have a Palhinha? Let’s go through these other midfielders if a Palhinha type is so vital.

He put on about two stone of bulk too.

Was it when he ran off the pitch for a shit or when he went looking for a fight in the crowd?

:gallashmm:

Absolutely not. Gray in his position is growing and can actually help keep possession, which renders Pal's one party trick as redundant, which Gray is also competent at.
Bruce Willis Wtf GIF

There is absolutely no balance to the midfield when Pal plays. The space between him, his partner and the 10 are huge, which make us like tissue paper to play through. If you press him he absolutely shits the bed and his second touch is a tackle. Always passes back, so keeps the ball in our third of the pitch, until it's inevitably booted up, because we have no midfield to use. Hides from getting on the ball in possession. He makes so many tackles because they mask his liabilities as a player. We're absolutely no better at the back with him at the back despite his tackles.

Last night was the first time we controlled a midfield all season up to when Berg went off. Because we had two players on the ball who are comfortable on the ball and can drive forward. Gray can also do the dirty work.

If he was the God he's made out to be here, Bayern wouldn't have sacked him off, since apparently every team needed a Palinha type. In all the top sides, I'm struggling to think of one team that has a destroyer who's so poor on the ball.

He's the defensive version of Kudus, instead of stopovers and beating a man 5 times, he tackles, that's it. No chance he gets made permanent in the summer.

To my mind, we’ve played about 4 matches where we’ve played decent~good footy for about 50% of it a Burnley, Copenhagen, Brentford (H), and now Dortmund. He didn’t start any of them.

Bit harsh on Kudus, he’s more like Adama Traore. One outstanding skill that people relate to the position he plays.
