Yep they can still pick and choose who to give the leeway to. ie scum and the dippers
Offside is the only place where VAR works well. But there is no way to give the attacker the advantage or leeway. Its binary and will never fix the problem of a player "only" being a toe nail offside. Even the thing with "clear and obvious" and how much time it takes for the VAR referee is a bit tough to get right.

They check it to the millimeter, spend too long checking and still manage to be scarily inconsistent.
It's sucked the joy out of watching live football. You now know, especially if you're a Spurs fan, before this you celebrate a goal, it's going to be checked.
And they're actively looking for a way to rule the goal out as refs are, by the very genetics, little hitler bellends
I dont disagree with you here. Not at all. And i am of the opinion that VAR has ruined a huge part of the game. Red cards, penaltys and goals in general. They are very inconsistent and often just dont make sense.
But i would say the offside callings are pretty consistent. If i remember it correctly, it was the offside which was the biggest problem before VAR and now there are not that many wrong offside calls.
I think we have realised now that the authorities and official using VAR won't change, calls are still being made subjectively and VAR has made it worse with the tech available, ironically they've slowed the game down by obsessing over every miniscule detail. I don't think the officials that manage these games are any different to what they were pre tech, they're just abusing the system so much that the games are now worse as a spectacle.
As a match going supporter I no longer properly celebrate the most joyous and important moment of any game, ie when Tottenham score a goal. So has VAR ruined live football as a spectacle? One million percent it has, absolutely, totally, irreparably.

The latest inconsistency is deciding who is or isn't interfering with play.

This. It is shit. It has 100% led to worse games of football too. Players just cant commit as much as they used to.
There's always some new addition that they fiddle with to try and fix it. Referees weren't initially going to go to the monitor.. But that in their heads was going to be the change that fixed VAR. So refs started going to the monitor. Then it became, "well the big issue with VAR is that the fans need to know whats going on.. Thats the only problem with it and if we sort that out, then it'll be fixed".. So the "checking possible ...." was put on the screen.. Then it was "that the referee needs to be miced up so he can explain his decision.. That'll make things so much clearer",
But, no. They didn't "fix it". No little change ever will fix it, because the whole concept and how it was implemented is just rotten and wank to it's core. Pretty much every major rule change in the past that I can think of, was in service to the watchability of the game. Be that something like the tweak to the offside law, or the introduction of the backpass rule.
That wasn't the case with VAR. The experience of the matchgoing fan or spectator, was not their 1st 2nd 3rd 4th or even 5th concern.
Yes that has caused a lot of controversies. Apparantly a player was not ruled offside in a similar situation last night in the chelsea - Woolwich match. I'm not a fan of VAR and i think it has ruined a big part of the game.
But i was thinking about the "normal offside situations". Does a player receive the ball in an offside situation or not. In those situations there are relatively few wrong calls. Or what? Do you think these calls are worse now than before VAR?
One thing i dont like no matter what is how much time it takes. And the situations where a team gets a corner or freekick from an offside position and going on to score.
There was talk about VAR decided corners to stop this.
The problem is, we're on the verge of 2 hour long games at that point.
Not to mention, even more controversy when they pick and chose when to intervene.
If they were bent, how would it be different?

Would have still run into trouble eventually but any trust I had for VAR and the PGMOL died that game

Possibly the first very OTT reaction to the state of refereeing and VAR.
I haven't seen it to comment on it, but anything that draws attention to VAR possibly being as bent as anyone in football is a good thing.

Interesting all the attention (what little there was) was on a feint handball. In the same passage of play, Xavi was pushed over and I've yet to see even a mention of it.
On MOTD you can see him go down, but there was no mention of it and no replay whatsoever.
On the stream i was watching the game on they said it was only a slight push so that must make it ok.
I wonder how they measure slight and big pushes.
