Think the big concern around Iraola is somewhat similar to Ange. His teams run really hard and get quite a lot of injuries...and that's when they're not even in Europe or going deep in cups.

Also question marks around whether the whole chaos ball approach would scale up to a bigger club or if, by it's very nature, it's suited to more mid-table type teams that don't come up against settled defences and have to break teams down.

Think he might be a fun appointment but certainly some big question marks there.

All the reasons you listed are why we won’t take that risk and if we move on from Frank it’ll be a known entity who comes in.

Interested to where Iraola goes. I suspect the Villa, Newcastle and our jobs will be up for grabs in the summer. Be interesting if any pick up the phone to him
 
Yesterday showed us why he brings something else to the table. Passion, energy, vision and fight!

We have been talking og how we lack leaders on the park, he may very well be one of them. Good addition in an else slim window

Pretty much my thouhgts, seems to be from that Biesla school that absolutely murders the players

- Can he handle a bigger squad, rotate, preserve players?
- Can he step up to being the team expected to win every game?
- Can he adapt his football for a bit more possession/game management?

A few question marks over him, for sure, but Im growing on the idea more and more.

I really enjoy the way they play. And, specifically, I LOVE the attitude of his team. DOESNT GIVE A FUCK WHO YOU ARE - is going to have a go at winning the game (and often does)

Wouldnt be my top choice, but if we brought him in I wouldnt be disappointed
 
Gallagher pressed excellently in the second half alongside Gray.

The way they both pressed in that second half, fighting for every ball is how we need to start every game, particularly at home.

Gallagher and Gray are going to be a really good combination in the midfield together.

Its awesome to see we have signed a warrior and potentially a future captain.
 
Early days, but great to see his energy and forward thinking attitude. A spine of Vic, Romero, VDV, Palhinha. Gallagher and Solanke isn’t too shabby. Simons looking better too.

Still issues with us out wide though.

We do have Kudus out tbf. Odobert is coming along nicely as well.

There's really no excuses to be playing as passive we do. We have the players to actually play football.

But agree there’s no excuse for our passivity. And what happened yesterday? Did Frank change things, or did the players?

I get what you're saying on Kudus. Good footballer but our attack seems more cohesive when he doesn't play. Probably because he tends to hold onto the ball for too long. Makes sense from his perspective considering he had to carry West ham for 2 years with no one to pass to tbf.

Yesterday I think it was both. Half time he puts an extra midfielder on and Gray is fullback instead of wingback and gets more touches on the ball and has a midfielder in Sarr who combines with him. I thought the attack was trying but were not able to get into the game as much first half due to Franks instructions and were probably allowed to go for it second half by Frank.
 
With Kudus, Im not sure how much of it is just him - and how much of it is coaching/set up

I think its in his nature to hold the ball, but I also think the way we played with him just lends itself to that as well

I wonder how he would fare in a set up that really drilled people to run off him and him to expect the runs...

May be just as bad, but until I see otherwise Im on the fence on Kudus
 
ive warmed to him quickly. brings intensity and heart to the team, hes a better footballer than i thought too. i like his personality, you need players like this around the club, solid signing.

basically swapping him for johnson is very good business.

we still need that pass master in midfield who can sit deeper and dictate play and pick passes, but once we get that i actually like the look of our midfield. gallagher, gray, berg, sarr, pal, even bissouma if he stays....thats a decent bunch of players there, a ball playing 6 and you have lots of options.
 
The problem with his signing isnt his fault

He wasnt / isnt really the profile we really needed, so was never going to make a truly significant impact

That said, I really like him, Im glad we've got him - and under a different manager* I think he'll really shine




*I keep saying it, but it applies to so many of our players...

My son keeps peddling this line to me about Gallagher's 'profile'.

He mentions 'progressive passers' being what we apparently need too.

You must read the same social media stuff as him.

Connor Gallagher clearly has something significant that Spurs are lacking throughout this team.

A personality to match up with his ability and work ethic.

I've only watched him play in a couple of games but his arrival has coincided with an uptick in performance levels from Archie Gray, Wilson Odebert and Xavi Simons.

I am forming the opinion that data analysis may not be the key to building a football team after all.

Younger people seem to need this type of statistical evidence to reassure them.

Football is a simple game.

The more data has been applied to achieving outcomes the less quality, maverick players, who in previous generations entertained and delivered remarkable outcomes, that got people off their seats, we have produced.

The data approach and cult of the coach is questionable in my opinion.

In profile, all I mean is a #8 - of which we have many - and really wasnt the most pressing need in the team/midfield

I think he is immediately the best #8 at the club, so clearly offers some improvement.

But - considering that wasnt really what we needed - that improvement is more marginal than had we bought a player into another position

For example, a top class #8 vs a top class LW - which would make the biggest impact?

Thats all.

As I said, I really like him. And I agree with you, his mentality is definitely a big plus.

I dont know how old you are, but Im 44 and apart from enjoying the silly twitter rumours in the window - I dont do social media. So the whole "you younguns..." kind of line just doesnt apply to me

Data has its place in football, but I agree with you - its not the be all/end all

Yeah. Between Danso, JP and CG, and for that matter Kudus, we have toughened up the starting 11 a fair bit.

I think it's debateable tbh whether (say) Gallagher or Semenyo (top class LWer) would have had a bigger impact.

Gallagher is in the engine room and is raising standards.

He is much, much better than our other 8s overall
